what is DOW?

 a relative of mine was in WWI and we ave not been able to find out any informaiton adto his age, living and children

all we foound out was something to do with the initials D.O.W


anyone know what this is abrieviated for?

we know if it helpos that he was one of the leading men in the team of brits in WWI in africa

DOW=died of wounds
DOI=died of injuries
DNB=died non-battle
FOD=finding of death,
M=missing

so.....we know now he was killed as a result of his wounds from war.


therefore, the more likely explainable result could be he was killed in action

 ya, it's likely. From those 2 sites, DOW is only applied to soldiers who were wounded in action and later died of those same wounds.

 i hate the govornment allowing troops to die horrific deaths

its like in WW1 with the mustard gas bombs

they weren't properly equipped

its likely my GREAT GREAT GREAT uncle frank(the one i am investigating) is likely to have been shot during the war and died of that wound/wounds as a result
