 the XP is rebotting and won't stop, anyone know a way I can make it so it won't? Was trying to install something of norton, got it installed rebooted then when it got to the start up screen.

 on the xp? it reboots like 3 seconds after the desktop shows up. if you mean on anther computer,

 If this works it would be amazing. you should be a computer technian, no joke you seem to know sooooooooooooo much of computers, way more then me. I know the mesley history of computers, type writter(s), the diffrent keyboards, the first computer (ENAIC), amount of power it took, transistors and some others things.

 they think it's a virus, but I say it's like wehat the 2nd poster said, it could just be a config file. That's what I think, when ever some thing like this happens or something similar they always first think "o it's a virus". People shouldn't jump to conclusions.

 mine was a virus, (^%@$#@$^$^ chain letters), had to run a scan 5 times to get enough files checked to find it.

 Ya there is A New Virus going through Emails that will freeze Your Computer and When You Try to cut it off or ctrl+alt+delete it, it will delete some of Your FIles on You COmpuer that You need.

 actually there is spyware that i know of that i had to deal with once. as soon as one of its files are triggered, it starts the auto reboot function which restarts your computer in 1 minute, thus ruining any chance of fixing the prob.

to get past this, u need to open the command prompt and type shutdown -a and it will work.

did u guys have to reinstall windows?

 yep that's what they did. but I dont' know if they have gotten IE to connect to the internet. I can set it up on this ME, don't know about other computeres.

 basically what happens is:

you connect to the net and open the net and it initiates shutdown within a minute
dont worry

it is an rcp virus

you need to get the rcp virus patch and fix it up and that should prevent the shut downs

then u can install either mcaffee, norton or another good scanner and do a scan

 it wasn't the stupid net.
say thsi computer had the same stupid problem, i rebotted, when It got to the desktop; about after 3 seconds (WITHOUT GOING INTO ANYTHING) it woudl reboot automatically, and would just keep doing that.
