ok, so we're building this CO2 laser in electronics class, and we're looking for two pieces of 1/8 in. thick aluminum for cell plates, and because it's a school project, we dont have much money...so we call people to find cheap or free parts..this is how the call went with rustan steel first trial lady: *the normal company intro* me: hello, im a student at moscrop secondary and we're building a project... *lady hangs up* second trial dude: *the intro* -> now i dont bother with my own intro me: do you have any scrap piec.... dude: no we dont have any scrap me: do you have any pieces of scrap aluminum? dude: no, we dont have any scrap, we dont keep scrap like that me: so you dont have any leftovers? dude: no we dont keep scrap like that me: ok thx newayz *dude hangs up* Two things i've learnt: when talking to people like this, never do two things (at the very least) 1. mention who you are 2. talk about leftovers or anything free. |

I'd send a formal complaint to that company and try to get in the local paper  . If that lady really hung up on you after mentioning you were a student, that's outrageous. :@ I'd be gunning to help give that company a bad rep. Sheesh!

Quite unrelated, but still.. Not really impolite, but in a way makes me wonder what kind of people these companies employ.. Lady: Hello.. Me: Yes, Hello, I want to enquire about your PC fixing service.. Lady: Whats wrong with it? Me: I believe my hard disk has died on me. How much would a new 80gig hard disk cost? Lady: [Silence..] You have to buy a new system.. Me: Why? Lady: Because, once a hard disk has died, the whole PC will go along with it, Your computer is unrecoverable. I will now transfer you to another dept, bye..[elevator music] :rolleyes: PS: This was a real company i called.. I sent an email to them and never got a reply back.. Amazing eh? |

Yeah our local pizza place delivers to the hs since we are probably their best customers. And we have all sorts of places with fundraisers and ads. Meh. I'm always polite, even when telling people off. I also recommend persistance. You should have called the lady back and said, "Hi again, I just called here and it seems you accidentally disconnected me..."

12-Step Internet Recovery Program :luna:  1) I will have a cup of coffee in the morning and read my newspaper like I used to, before the Internet. 2) I will eat breakfast with a knife and fork and not with one hand typing. 3) I will get dressed before noon. 4) I will make an attempt to clean the house, wash clothes, and plan dinner before even thinking of the Internet. 5) I will sit down and write a letter to those unfortunate few friends and family that are Internet-deprived. 6) I will call someone on the phone who I cannot contact via the Internet. 7) I will read a book...if I still remember how. 8) I will listen to those around me and their needs and stop telling them to turn the TV down so I can hear the music on the Internet. 9) I will not be tempted during TV commercials to check for email. 10) I will try and get out of the house at least once a week, if it is necessary or not. 11) I will remember that my bank is not forgiving if I forget to balance my checkbook because I was too busy on the Internet. 12) Last, but not least, I will remember that I must go to bed sometime...and the Internet will always be there tomorrow! |
