picnics are tasty, but I wouldn't just go straight up and ask her that so soon. Maybe after going out for a little bit.

Indeed.
Picnics are good and all, but you generally don't want to ask somebody to go on one, as it's more of a pleasant surprise type thing you spring on them once you're doing all the little romantic things.
Also, it might be similar to asking a girl to go hiking, etc. with you, which is one of my favorite things to do alone or with a girl, but if it's a first date or even a third, she might worry that you're some sort of freak who wants to get her alone in the woods where nobody can hear her scream...

Quote:

I also don't suggest you just ask her out so quickly. That kind of reminds me of public school when the boys would run up to the girls and ask them out after hardly knowing knowing them. :stefan:
Take it slow, especially since your in highschool. Get to be friends with her before you do anything. :/

I tend to agree.
Asking somebody out too soon is pretty much like saying "Hi, my name is Joe. I'd like to have sex with you. Right now, if possible, but I'll buy you dinner first if you'd like."
Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with directness, but I guess it depends on your motive.. whether you truly like her or just want to jump her.. and it depends on what type of person she is, what she's looking for, and all that as well.

You said you've sort of known her for some time, but not really well, so I'd suggest finding a way to get to know her better, as opposed to asking her out for a date type situation.
Unless you do just want to jump her, in which case I can't recommend deceptively trying to befriend her just to get at her.
Probably a party or a dance or something would be your best bet then.

I also wouldn't make up excuses to talk to her, like needing help with homework or whatever, though something like that might work, but even dishonesty for a good purpose is still dishonesty, and there are plenty of other ways to start a conversation or get her to spend some time with you.

Personally, I would recommend subtle flirting as a first course of action.
Flash her a smile when you walk by or compliment her on what she's wearing, if you like it that is.. don't lie if you don't.. and don't do the compliment thing very often, as it will not only lose it's value, but will also become obvious that you're doing it for a reason.
Let her catch you looking at her now and then.
But not if you're drooling. >_<

If you know some things she likes, whether certain books or sports or music or whatever, those are good ways to start conversations without being blunt.
If you don't know too much about her and what she's into, you can use sneaky ways to find out, like asking your friend whose class she TA's for to keep an ear open for anything useful, or even to ask her a question now and then and relay the answers back to you.
Sneaky is perfectly fine, unlike dishonesty. :)
Then you can find ways to use those things to get her talking with you at least, and such a conversation might get her to reveal some more stuff about herself that you could talk about, or use as a means to start the next conversation some other day. ;)

Maybe she'll mention that she likes.. bowling(?) and you can make note of that, and then a few days later when you see her, you can approach her and:

"Oh, hey! Got a minute?"
"Yeah, I guess so.. what's up?"
"Well, after you were telling me how much you like bowling the other day, I got to thinking that it's been a couple years since I've done it, so me and my friend are gonna go this weekend maybe. You wanna come with us?"
"Um.. This weekend? I dunno.. Um.."
"You'll probably kick our asses pretty bad, but if you promise not to brag about it to all your friends, you're welcome to join us. Maybe you could even tell me what I'm doing wrong. "
"Hmm.. Yeah, that could be fun. I haven't done it in awhile. And I'm not really all that good, I just enjoy it for some reason."
"Heh, well, ok, cool. Lemme get your number and I'll talk to my friend and figure out what time we're going and all that mullet, and I'll call tonight or tomorrow and let you know."
"Did you just say 'mullet'?"
"Heh, no.. it's the word filter."
"Um.. ok.... Anyway, my number is blahblahblahblah. Just don't call after 9."
"Got it. Well, I better get to class before I'm late. Oh, hey.. afterward, do you think you might wanna go hiking? I know this great place where nobody would hear you scream."
"Wtf? Creep! *SLAP*

Or whatever..

But what I'm getting at is that you can find these little ways to work your way into her life a bit more, so you're not just coming on to her out of the blue.

Best Worst Case Senerio ever. :arr:

I have my own tip: ever become extremely nervous at sight of her. Keep focused, like you are doing the S.A.T's in the middle of a circus and your life depended on you getting a good grade.

And, a cheesy, yet overpriced gift works at the second date. (if you ever get that far)/

Hmm, interesting..listen I haven't read the posts in this topic so if this has already been said, or something else happened to make my post look stupid, ignore it.

But anyway, my advice to you is not to try to impress her by changing your clothes or whatever--don't change your outer or inner self. If she likes you for who you are pretending to be, she doesn't like you. Do you see what I'm saying? This may sound corny, i know :P , but it's what's on the inside that counts. If she only likes you for the clothes you wear and how you act, then she really isn't worth your time. I hope that helps.

Oh and btw nothing will make her leave aster than coming on strong--make sure you are friends with her and talk to her a lot on a regular basis before you even tghink about asking her out. If you are intimidated by her friends, then oh well. Screw them, who needs 'em? ^_^ Confidence is always the key.

Go for it man the more you think about it the more you won't do it. Don't let her looks be intimidating. Think how cool it'll be to talk to her, it might actually be fun. Think on the bright side, you're talking to a nice looking good what's better than that?
