Royal Rumble 2005 Update; Just in case anyone still doesn't know?

Edge has made it no secret that he thinks that everyone is out to get him. Edge feels that the World Heavyweight Championship rightfully belongs around his waist. And no one has been a thorn in his side more than Shawn Michaels. Edge has never been the same mentally since HBK was voted in to get a title shot at Taboo Tuesday, a title shot that Edge felt he deserved.

After weeks and months of going at it, the two rivals met at the Royal Rumble to try and settle the rivalry once and for all. As expected, the action was intense and hard-hitting. Over the weeks and months this match was personal, and it showed. Edge gained the early advantage with a baseball slide that laid out HBK on the outside, but the two Superstars would trade the upper hand over and over throughout the contest.

Edge looked to have everything going his way midway through the match. Edge nailed Michaels with the spear on the outside. HBK gotback into the ring on the count of nine, narrowly avoiding the count-out. Edge then mocked the fallen Michaels, and started to "warm up the band." As Michaels rose to his feet, Edge hit another spear, but HBK somehow managed to kick out at three. Edge was on the verge of snapping as he began pulling out his own hair, and HBK capitalized.

Edge had the Showstopper set up for a superplex, but Michaels knocked Edge off the ropes and nailed he flying elbow. Then it was Michaels turn to "warm up the band" but before he could connect with the Sweet Chin Music, Edge countered into an Electric Chair. He followed it up by locking in his Edgecator Submission Move, but HBK was able to get to the ropes.

Edge tried to reapply the move, but HBK reversed it into a pinning combination. Edge kicked out and rveresed another HBK pinning attempt into a rollup of his own and used the ropes for leverage to get the 1-2-3 over his arch nemesis, Shawn Michaels. Edge got the win, but will it really be the end of this biter rivalry?

Heidenreich has been out to destroy Undertaker ever since No Mercy last October. Heidenreich has cost Undertaker the WWE Championship on two seperate occasions. At No Mercy, Heidenreich jumped out of the hearse and attacked Undertaker as he was ready to defeat JBL. Then, as Undertaker was primed to win the Fatal Fourway at Armageddon, Heidenreich made his presence known once again as he attacked the Deadman. Undertaker has finally found Heidenreich's weakness, though...caskets.

Ever since Undertaker has announced that their Royal Rumble match would be a Casket Match, Heidenreich has been visibly terrified whenever the mere thought or word casket is mentioned. Before the match, Heidenreich had an encounter with RAW's Gene Snitsky.

Both maniacal Superstars admitted to hating caskets, but Snitsky claimed he had a plan. Only time would tell what the two animals would have in store for the Phenom. Undertaker jumped out to the early advantage, but Heidenreich bounced back, whipping Undertaker right into the casket, back-first. Heidenreich unleashed a bevy of punches, but Undertaker countered with a triangle choke.

Then, Snitsky and Heidenreich's plan started to come to fruition as Snitsky came down and tried to take out Taker. After a doulbe suplex, Heidenreich called to the refs to open the casket, but when they did, Kane emerged to help his brother, but more importantly, to take out Snitsky.

Kane and Snitsky started battling through the crowd as Undertaker and Heidenreich continued their match. One two separate occasions, Heidenreich had Undertaker down and in the casket, but both times he tried to close the lid, the Deadman got his arm up just in the nick of time. Even though Heidenreich hit his swinging sidewalk slam, Undertaker came back and hit a DDT, Chokeslam and the deadly Tombstone Piledriver to put Heidenreich away as he slammed the lid shut on his nemesis.

JBL has been on quite an impressive roll ever since becoming WWE Champion. He has taken on all comers in all sorts of matches, and every time, he finds away to walk away with the WWE Championship.

He has beaten Eddie Guerrero, Undertaker and Booker T, but now he had to defend the title against Big Show and Kurt Angle at the same time in a Triple Threat Match. JBL had already been victorious in Last Ride, Bullrope and Fatal Fourway Matches, but how would he fare in the dangerous Triple Threat Match?

Big Show dominated early on, taking on both Angle and JBL at once. He sent both to the outside with a clothesline over the top. Big Show had JBL set up for a chokeslam through the SmackDown! announce table, but Angle nailed Big Show with a monitor, sending him through the table, knocking him temporarily out of commission. Kurt Angle was able to execute two German suplexes on the WWE Champion, but Big Show recovered from his fall and re-entered the fray.

Big Show went for a double chokeslam, but Angle attacked his knee. Then JBL hit a Clotheseline From Hell and Angle went low, attacking the knee at the same time. After a couple of near falls for both Angle and JBL, the action spilled to the outside once again. Big Show leveled JBL and sent him through the barrier, leaving both men lying on the cement floor in pain. Angle then tried to hide a chair in one of the corners, as he was playing possum, trying to lure Big Show in for the kill.

Big Show was able to hit a flapjack, though, as Angle's head bounced off the very chair he was holding. Mark Jindrak stormed the ring, to break up the pin, though. Meanwhile, on the outside, JBL's Chief of Staff Orlando Jordan and his Co-Secretaries of Defense the Basham Brothers came down to make sure he was OK, as paramedics were ready to stretcher him out.

Jindrak and Luther Reigns dragged Big Show out and kept him occupied, and then Jordan shoved JBL back into the ring. JBL recovered just in time to hit a thunderous Clothesline From Hell on a surprised Angle and picked up the win.

JBL walked into the Royal Rumble as the champion, and once again, he walked out with the gold still in tact around his waist.

Triple H once saw Randy Orton as a future World Heavyweight Champion. But Randy Orton shot up the ladder of success just a little too quickly for The Game's liking. Once Randy Orton defeated Chris Benoit for the World Championship at SummerSlam, Triple H rained on the third genereation Superstar's parade and unceremoniously kicked him out of Evolution, leaving him a bloody mess in the process.

Triple H defeated Orton one month later to regain his World Heavyewight Championship, and outside of participating in the Evolution Chamber at New Year's Revolution, this is Orton's first chance at revenge against Triple H. RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff tried to ensure that Batista wouldn't play a role in the outcome this time, as he banned Evolution from ringside.

From the outset, you could tell that matters went much deeper than the World Championship. You could tell things were intensely personal when Orton started the match by slapping the taste out of Triple H's mouth. But it wasn't long before Triple H's experience started to make an impact. A la fellow Evolution member Ric Flair, Triple H began to systematically work on Orton's left leg. After softening his leg up with a series of moves, Triple H locked in the figure four leglock. After several moments of excruciating pain in the maneuver, Orton was able to reverse the hold.

Orton came back with a flurry, hitting a modified neck breaker, swinging neck breaker and a powerslam, but all it could get Orton was a two-count. As Orton went to work on Triple H in the corner, The Game came back with an inverted atomic drop, but Orton came back with a fling bodypress. Triple H tried to lock in the Pedigree, but Orton countered into a slingshot.

Orton set up for the RKO, but Triple H saw it coming and sent him into the corner before hitting a knee lift. Triple H set up for the Pedigree once again, but Orton countered into a clotheseline for a near fall. After missing a DDT, Orton seemed out on his feet. As the referee checked on him, Triple H nailed both of them in the corner, knocking the ref out in the process.

With the ref down, Triple H went for his trusty Sledgehammer. As Triple H went in for the kill, Orton sent The Game face-first into the ring post. As both Superstars cralwed back into the ring,Triple H hit a clothesline and the Pedigree for the win to retain his World Heavyweight Championship.

The 2005 Royal Rumble Match
The Royal Rumble is a chance for 30 WWE Superstars to catapult themselves into the main event of WrestleMania. Last year Chris Benoit won the Rumble and went on to WrestleMania to become World Champion, achieving an 18-year dream. But this year it was starting to look like it was 1994 all over again.

In 1994 Lex Luger and Bret "Hit Man" Hart hit the floor at exactly the same time, and both were declared co-winners of the match. This year's final four saw Edge, Rey Mysterio, John Cena and Batista battling it out for the coveted main event slot at WrestleMania 21.

Edge started delivering spears to everyone, but Mysterio bounced back and hit Edge with the 619. Edge bounced back and tried to toss Mysterio over the top rope. Mysterio hung on, but then Edge speared him out to the floor. Edge had no time for celebration, however, as Cena and Batista teamed up to throw him out. And then there were two. Batista, representing Raw, and Cena, representing SmackDown!, clashed for the all important title shot. Cena had Batista up for the F-U, but Batista fought out of it.

The animal of Evolution then hoisted Cena up for the Batista bomb and tried to throw him out. The momentum of the maneuver, however, led to both Superstars falling out of the ring and hitting the floor at the same time. Just like Luger and Hart did in 1994.

But Mr. McMahon would not let history repeat itself. The Chairman came down to the ring and ordered that Batista and Cena resume the match. Batista went right back to work and hit a brutal Spinebuster before throwing out the Dr. of Thuganomics. So now that all of the smoke has cleared, the animal of Evolution, Batista will be going on to headline WrestleMania 21.
