419 scams..

I've received plenty of 419 scam emails in my time.
Probably several hundred.
But I just got IM'd with one, or what seemed to be one.. I put them on ignore before it got too far.

Anyone else get one of these on IM?
First I've heard of it, but I guess there's no reason it wouldn't happen.

 I also heard that there is a CIA fake e-mail going out through our e-mails. I opened that up, and the virus nearly ate my computer >_<

 I know what scams are but what does 419 have to do with it?
BTW any one ever see the Red Vs. Blue show about real live vs. the Internet? lol

I think I've gotten an email (about a year or two ago), but I'm not sure if it had anything to with this "419" scam.

I just deleted the email and moved on.

 Ive gotten too many of those scam emails. although my sister fell for one and now she is in some major trouble with the law due to a fake check she got from the person. she cashed it and she got it for uttering and publishing the check.

Yeah, well I get lots of spam at some of my emails.
Never sign up for any Yahoo Groups if you can avoid it.
They're spam generators.

Strangely enough, my boss gets even more 419 emails than I do.
At least to one of his email accounts.
He had me clean it out a couple weeks ago, and he had exactly 3 legitimate emails out of over 1700, which I had to search through to make sure I wasn't deleting any real ones by accident. :'(
And out of those 1700+, I would bet at least 500 were 419s.

Funniest part is, many of them were easy to spot because he'd received duplicates, triplicates, and even.. whatever you call 4 of something.. (quadruplicates?) back to back, like when somebody on a forum is experiencing lag and their post doesn't seem to work so they keep clicking submit or whatever and then 5 of the exact same posts show up in a row.
And then there were more of the same the next day.
So he was getting maybe 15 different 419 scam emails, but multiples of each one, day after day.
Perhaps the stupidest spamming I've ever come across.

So, am I to consider myself special that I've started to attract them via IM? :rory:

Never had an IM though. Maybe they want to congradulate you with $50 000000000000 or something. :rofl:

I'm interested to know how they got the e-mail address that I've never published or even used to sign up for anything. So much for security. :rolleyes:
