Yes. ![]() You have to ask the owner of the skin first to modify it. |

Well acording to this artical if I was to upload a pic that I made to the internet then I still hold the copyright even if I did not get an offical one (thats how I took it) http://inventors.about.com/cs/copyrights/h..._Copyrights.htm |

When you make something, technically it is copy-righted to you. It actually reminds me of a story my English teacher said once. (note: this isn't my current english teacher.) Some point in time (not sure when), he drew the mascot of the school he used to go to. Not much latter, he saw his drawing on mugs and other things that someone was trying to sell. In the end, he took the guy to court and stopped him from illegally using his drawing. |

Yeah, it pretty much depends on whether you want to deal with going after them or not. Most webhosts and ISP's probably don't want to deal with a lot of hassle, so if you report the violations to them and provide some proof, I imagine they'd take action against the person so as not to have to hear your constant complaints, much less get involved in a court case. |

Midis, graphic images (including web graphics, photos, logos and other digital art), writings, text, HTML, javascripts or other material in the public domain does not grant you the right to claim copyright to it just because you find it and use it. Your copyright statement only expands to the content that you created yourself, not to the public domain material you're using.
Total and utter garbage. He sounds like nothing more than a conman trying to make a forum founded by other people's work, which is wrong and against copyright laws. Sadly he couldn't be sued unless someone actually bought the copyright but what are the chances of someone doing that? :/ He could (and hopefully would) be shut down because it's illegal and most people won't stand for it so if IPS or anyone else hosted him the owner is likely to cooperate but if he hosted the board himself, different story. :/ What is it with people trying to get around copyright? Ugh, it's so annoying. I think we should make learning copyright mandatory. Edit: I need to stop taking so long to write my answers.

I didn't even think about it, but IPS's licensing agreement for IPB probably says something about not using their software for illegal purposes? So maybe they could bar you from using their software, even if you purchased it, if they'd bother. So again, the question would be whether the various businesses involved would be willing to take the time to put the smackdown on any talentless losers who would do such things, if there were no threat of legal action. |

LOL what kind of moron did you talk to? If your going to take a skin an modify it completely then why not just start a whole new skin? It makes no sense to use someone else's skin and completely change it. |

or you could just ask the creator? If he/she would allow their skin to be modified if you still gave them credit as the original creator? But to be honest I don't quite see the point... I mean one thing is wanting to modify a particular skin to fit your own board, but another is modifying a skin to redistribute as your own work... I agree with FearKiller, why not just make your own skins - then you get ALL the credit for it too ![]() It sounds to me like this guy is more interested in all the fuss, accusations and arguments this project would cause (because you KNOW it would) than building up a rep as a good skinner (or rep of his board for that matter) :/ |
