Try starting with a small amount and work your way up to making new forums when more members join.

I have almost 30, counting staff forums and subforums. If you're just starting, you should only have a few so it doesn't look empty. You could combine the Video Game Releases and Reviews forums. Fan art and sig folder could be merged. Guest Information forum and the Guest FAQ could be all in one. Make a topic in the Information forum called FAQ. And maybe 1 forum for Nintendo?, instead of the DS one, the Gamecube one and the Past one. Just some suggestions. You could trim down about 6/7 forums if you mess around with some stuff. |

One way that works for having workable number of forums on your board. Sart with a few fairly general subject fourms. As a number of topics are started, you will see natural groups on more specific subjects accumulate. Create a new forum or sub-forum for the new subject and move the related topics into it. This way, your forum members determine number of forums and their subject according to actual use. Example: Board Name - "All About Widgets". Category - "Making Widgets". Forum - "Widget Specifications". Then, say you get a bunch of topics started by forum members talking about Widget specs and a bunch of them are concerning Widget size, make a new forum about the size of Widgets. |
