 ok what i want is a code that makes a value increment every 10 minutes that a user is on a page. how would this be done in php?

 Sounds more like a job for JS to me. :ermm:
You could create a timestamp in PHP. Then, you could later on make another timestamp and compare it to the earlier one to see how much time is between them.
