well what connection speed do u have? cable, DSL, 56k, T1, etc...
what type of items are you downloading: music, programs, patches, etc..

if its files like programs and software try a download manager like fresh download. it doesnt really help all that much but it does help out for sustained download speeds and resuming lost conections.

for patches to microsoft, ie actual updates to the OS ur screwed hehe

Most cabel is 512. That is what I am on. If you are really desperate for faster speeds go to T1 :D

don't think my dad would pay for that. I doint' know if it's true but I think I read somwhere that the more people in your area that have cable the slower it will go. if false; YAY!. I'm fine I guess.

Kinda true. If you run off cable everyone in your area goes into the same line that gets transfered to the DNS server. This theoritically could mean if everyone in your area was downloading stuff at the same time you could see some lags. This though is a problem with DSL and dial up also. Though they all have idvidual lines they still all meet up at the server so you could experence lag either way.
