 I dont' know why but lateley it seems that I have much much much much much much much less free space then I did like the day before. Does it matter what type of 'file system' my C:drive it? right now it's a NTFS. it has about 60% free space, but the computer seems really slow.

 How much space you have on your HD doesn't determine how fast your computer functions. If your computer is slow it's beacuse of your RAM. You may not have a whole lot, or the big killer of RAM is when people set their programs like MSN and AIM etc. to launch at start up. That's the best way to zap your RAM. Turn the auto-launch stuff off.

 I have 640 MB of ram. I also use traillian for AIM/MSN. I dont' like MSN sepratly becuae unlike AIM (lest for me) it won't tell me when someone logs off, wont' tell me anything about other users EXCEPT when the log on. For AIM it does all of that. and the things running the tray (back ground I guess) are:

limewire, volume, safley remove hardware, trill, and norton system works 2005. Besides limewire and trill I have set the toolbar to 'hide' those icons.

You can have 640. :ermm: Depends on how many slots you have and what size each stick is. 3 slots, 2 256's and a 128'll do the trick.

 yes a 512 and a 128 i belive is in the computer. Only two places. Used to have 256 MB (I think). some things do go faster like normall if I exited simcity 4 Rushour it woudl switch to the desktop faster then when I had the 256. guess i'll live with some sloweness.

 That is because of your Cache and the Known thing that Windows dosen't delete the Hitory,Cookies,Cache etc.

 Free space on your hard drive could effect speed, but usually only when you start running pretty low.

You might try defragging, and if you leave your computer running for long periods without restarting, you might find some benefit from one of the memory management tools available for download that are sort of like defraggers for your RAM that can help with programs don't let RAM be reallocated properly.
I'd check download.com for those.
You can also find tools to test your RAM to see if it's functioning correctly, though I don't know how reliable those are.
And sometimes setting your pagefile to a fixed number instead of letting Windows dynamically adjust it as it sees fit will help.
And as Loth said, things running at startup can have an effect, so you shouldn't have anything running from startup or in the background that you don't really need, and the same goes for Windows Services.
You can check blackviper.com for some guides about services and stuff, and you might want to get a program like startup control panel to manage


Your first post has me confused though, as it sounds like you're saying your actual hard drive space is getting used up, which would have nothing to do with anything any of us has mentioned so far, though I seem to recall something similar happening on an old computer of mine that only had a 2gb drive and if I left it running long enough, even without creating or saving files, I'd eventually start getting low disk space warnings for some reason due to something with programs causing memory leak or something, and the memory management tools I mentioned earlier would solve that.
Or it could be tons of temp files being created by your LimeWire program or something.
Or some viruses and worms are known to cause that sort of thing.

 try turning down your system restore harddrive % maybe? control panel -> system -> advanced i believe?

um eha run a program like window washer with its file wipe or eraser or ace utilities file wipe and reg and junk file cleeaner. ace utilites is good stuff for the 30 days

 well the entire C space is 55.5 GB I think. Eailer today the properties said the used space was like 22 (or something in the low 20's range), right now it says 12. 1 GB used. Free 47. 3. Total 55.8. And I 'compressed' the entire C drive. if I go to Windows Exploer, and locate the C drive the thing is blue along with the main folders undeartheanth it. And as I said before I do run XP, I got the settings to say what XP thing i'm running:

Windows Xp Home edition
Bulild 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.050301-1519 (service pack 2). Limewire for those that dont' know is a downloading program, i can download music, videos, pictures, programs, txt docs, lots of things. I use the free version. It sort of creates a lot of Temp files I guess. I just opened and analized the C drive and it says I should defrag. and corrding to it I have 78% free space, eailer today it said like 58%.

 Eh... you shouldn't compress your whole C drive.
That might be part of the problem.
You should really only compress stuff you don't use very often, otherwise you're computer is always doing work uncompressing and recompressing them.
Put everything you want to compress in separate folders and just compress those, or better yet, make a partition to put them on and compress that.
