Netscape 8 Beta; good or no?

hey, i just saw something about Netscape 8 Beta in a dutch PC magazine, and they said it's even better then firefox. i've downloaded it and as far as i can see, it works well though you must get used to it a bit.

i see that you can set multiple pages as homepage so you can make it open 3 pages when loading netscape, or the amount you like ofcourse.

but my question is, wich browser is faster, safer etc? because so far i see not much differences between the browsers, so perhaps someone knows if Netscape 8 or FireFox is faster, or safer perhaps?

btw, you can download it here

You better make sure the security problem mentioned in this topic is gone with v. 8.0.

You can do that in Firefox as well, I believe.
You can also do it in Avant. :)

Yup, just add multiple URLs under home page, and separate them with a |.

Netscape security is better than IE, however their are still insecure parts to any browser. You have always gotta be careful

I tried Netscape 8, because I was curious what it was like and wanted to try out things like how it renders etc.

It's obvious to see it's based of Firefox, and seems to render the same, which is good. But boy does it look disgusting :X

It's green for a start, and it's really really cluttered with useless crap like your local weather (which didn't work for me) and 'trust ratings' and stuff. At the startup, it was trying to load so much stuff that it froze for a while - not such a good first impression >_<.
It wasn't obvious at all which button did what at a glace, you needed to see the tooltip to see, the icons weren't obvious. The bookmarks thing wasn't even there to start with, until I discovered it was on this silly sidebar thing.

Really you need to be able to see what things are like at-a-glance, like Firefox and indeed IE aswell. They didn't even need to put in text labels, just obvious icons. There might be an option to change that, I dunno, either way it's a bad first impression of how you actually use it.

One of the most funny options was that you could change the rendering engine of a page from Netscape's to Internet Explorer's, probably for backwards-compatibility (I say 'backwards compatibility' because it's probably for all the non-standards complaint sites or ones which are built to work specifically with IE, not newer browsers). IMO, they might have well labeled the button 'make this page look and work like crap' (although that wouldn't apply to all pages)

It's alright, I can see there are a lot of useful features, but it's waay too cluttered and probably a but bloated for my liking, aside from the fact it looks disgusting. I prefer Firefox as it's lightweight and if you want the extended functionailty like weather etc., you can get the extensions. Start with the basic browser and build it up as you like ^_^

IMO anything that relates itself to AOL by putting that "Get AOL for free!" link in their Setup is evil. :E It probably shares the spyware AOL has.

Or do they still do that?

Firefox is awesome, I was a gung ho IE user and hated the Netscape feel and when I first tried Firefox I didn't like it, but now I don't even fire up IE ( other then M$ updates) thier are 2 things to do to make Firefox even faster, pipeline tweak or the Firetune program. I use Adaware and before with IE I was dumping many spyware files 3x a day, with Firefox I only check once a week and have 1 file in thier a sites counter..thats it! goodbye spyware, it also doesn't allow things to dload to your computer, BHO's etc. Much safer...for now!
