I found this article on nintendo.com.

Quote:

Nintendo, the world leader in video game innovation, stated loud and clear that they are not to be overlooked in the next generation home console race with the revelation of several unique features of the company's next console system, code name Revolution, to key media outlets. According to the early information, Revolution will combine powerful technology and gaming-focused features in Nintendo's smallest home game console yet.

In its final form, Revolution will be about the thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer. The versatile Revolution will play either horizontally or vertically, allowing the user total flexibility in setting up a gaming session wherever they have a television.

Thanks to Nintendo's hardware development partners IBM and ATI, the small system will be packed with power that will enable it to wow players with its graphics. Nintendo's legions of loyal fans will be happy to learn that Revolution will be backward compatible, playing both Nintendo GameCube 8cm disks along with its own 12cm optical disks in the same self-loading media drive.

In the next generation, the addition of the Internet will be important to all consoles and particularly important to Nintendo. Revolution will be wireless Internet ready out of the box.

There's much more to Revolution that will be revealed over the coming months, but the combination of its compact size, wireless Internet, backward compatibility, quick start-up time and quiet, low-power operation add up to the start of a great game system. Get ready for the Nintendo Revolution in 2006!

Two downsides.

1) No pictures, yet.
2) 2006?! Damn. <_<

EDIT:The Revolution

Could these be actual screenshots of the revolution??? Are all these capabilities (headset jack for communication for online gaming for example) going to be a reality??? If so, I can only do one thing..

I'm excited too about this, a couple of things though:

E3 is not that far away, you may get some sort of information during nintendo's pre-E3 conference. (which is on tusday I think)

A "leak" revealed that the revolution would come mid 2006, not too far away if you think about it.

this quote was changed by nintendo and said something like "standard dvd" in it.

This seems interesting because as you can see above it was changed to a more vague statement.

This possibly means that the revolution will play dvds, which is always good news.

That was made a while ago, I'm pretty sure that the revolution will not use cartrages

BUT the size almost matches the height of "3 did cases" that nintendo discribes.

>_< Wireless you say? Hatin' the controller though. The gyro feature'll screw some people up (especially those of the 'playing at an angle other than perfectly straight with controller flat on table' variety)

EDIT: Wait a minute, where's the frequency changer on the controllers? And how can it play Gamecube games if it doesn't have all the Gamecube buttons?

I think the frequency controller is on the bottom of the controller, like it was with the Wavebirds. And as for all the controls, Nintendo said they were planning on some sort of touch-sensitive thing to MAKE the controls...I'm not completely sure myself. Bah...I hope they don't make it like that. It was annoying enough on the DS. Go back to physical buttons, people!

This all looks great, but it just feels...

wrong...

Nintendo is falling into the trend along with PS3 and X-Box-whatever-the-hell-it-is... :/

This...just isn't Nintendo...

Eh, it's time to face facts, for me, too.

Video game & console production isn't about being different, it's about SELLING, getting money. Apparently, the trend sells more.

Still, if you think about it, they're still being innovative. I.E. if they DO use the touch thing with the controller. Plus, they still seem to like small things, as shown with this new pic.

So, they haven't completely fallen in. ;)

Well, if it's all about selling...

You just know right off the bat that Nintendo is going to lose thousands, possibly millions of sales because of their touch pad. Every serious gamer will dismiss it immediately and walk away from it forever.

All of my friends at school like the PSP better than theDS. Their reason? "The DS is gay!"

Nintendo has some awesome ideas, but this is really going to cost them. No one is willing to try new ideas, so I have a feeling the Revolution won't sell as well as the other two.

My sentiments exactly. Touching crap won't cut it, as they should have figured out by the DS.

But, who knows? Maybe they'll have some hoobler-goobler technological way of making it that will be a hit. Only time will tell.
