no hardware failure. all big companies use tapes. they are the most secure form of backup. tapes are HUGE rolls of analog tape that save up to 300gb of data. i work at washington Mutual and we go through thousands each year. the reason we use them is because the tapes are recorded in analog format. and therefore the data lasts longer tan a digital backup. they are known to last about 15 years without any upkeep. opnly prob with these, is that they are bulky and need to be shipped over ground or air rather than accessing the server. also this is safer since there is no large online data exchange. hope this helps! |

its much safer. but extremely expensive since we back up around 30-50 of those tapes EACH day. |
