I'm one of those people who loves to analyze my forums statistics in order to improve the service of my forum. I'm just wondering if any one else has recieved a huge increase in the activity of their forum? I think it's due to high school students getting out of school ...looking for jobs, and getting distracted. So I only have a year's worth of stats to look at... but I'm already seeing somewhat of a pattern (now that I'm going through my second year on IF) End of May, June-July and October are top notch spots for the forum. September goes down b/c people become more studious in this month and have no time for chatting with their new school resolutions. November is slow. Along with January and February. There is a little peak during December b/c of time off after exams, and after Christmas boredom. So basically the time after Exams will be a peak for your forum. The time after a holiday will also be a peak. If you can manage to hold contests on those days with results only coming out on the low-peak days then you may be able to stabilize the amount of people that view your forum. You might think this is all coming out of my mullet but my forum is always increasing the number of people and posts if that holds any credibility (which it should). I've only met a few people with more people, and I don't see them giving out their secrets to success...which I think they should, because a better IF is better for everyone else. I'll even go so far to bet my Jessica Rabbit emoticon that I'll be the largest non-IF-Service forum on this site one day.

Wow, that's a really cool way to look at things. I never thought of forum activity that way--I suppose I need to take some marketing classes. ![]() Now that you mention it, though, that is true, and it makes perfect sense. Excellent tips for forum admins and promotion teams. I might try holding events during "peak times" myself. Thanks!

Yeah I also saw this on The Admin Zone. Durign the summer months activity will slow down due to teens going outside for the warm weather. |

i myself find summer the slowest time because the weather is so good and teenagers(the majority of my members) prefer to be outside..winter is the best time for me because there is nothing else to do but get on the computer..the 2 weeks before and after Christmas is the top of the mountain for me..obviously because everyone is out for Christmas break along with the fact millions of kids are surfing the web on their new computers that they got for Christmas..thats just from my experience though.. |

I normally find that the biggest activity increase is in the Summer. Most of the people who go on forums, will go on during the summer. |

True, but summer can also mean free time, and most people spend at least part of the day inside if they don't have school (for younger members). |

[Coughcoughbeehoolhoolcough.] ![]() Summer is the best and most active time, IMO, since people having breaks at school, and believe it or not..some "childwen" and "younger members" like screwing around on the internet sometimes. =P [I mehself're 15, turn sixteen in December.] The thing is...sure, the first couple of weeks I've had off, I was outside a lot. But then, I find out something revolutionary...where I live sucks ars3'. XP Weather's been changing too much, from muggy hot to "OMG LIGHTNING STORMS w/ HAIL!!", and there's too many roads around for meh and any friends my age to really go anywhere. And Omeh has no car. ![]() ..But hey. XP |

In my opinion. Personally, i've always found November - February to be the most active time of the year. Summer usually slows down. |

I usually start off with 3 catergorys with a few forums in each. Then i advertise in sigs, plug your place forums and in forums realted to what my forums based on. Within 5 days i find that if i have a good skin, topics in each board one or two members would come along and start posting, then when i start replying it usually gets people posting and duiscussion happening! After that i just keep promoting and getting my forum out there!

I dunno about my board. It's a website about graphing calculators programming (TI, Casio and HP) and some people might put their calculators in their closet due to the fact school is done and stop programming while other might spend their free time programming new games, meaning that I might have some members leaving and others coming. The only thing I am afraid about is september, which is at that time every new calculator users will come to download games and ask how to send them to their calc so I will have to awnser the same questions like 10 times  . I am also afraid of when they'll upgrade to IF 2.0 because I need to backup all my hacks, smilies and images in case they get changed and I will have to redo all my skin from scratch  The only thing I can say is that activity does nothing but increase right now. My board opened to public on may 12 2005 and I alerady have 1200 posts right now. |

My board has hardly any returning members (and it's almost two), so it's the same all year long~ *shrug* |
