I'm writing an essay for my english class... just thought I'd get some opinions. I'm argueing it does in the essay.... I can give the scientific proof later if anyone wants it. But I'd like to hear some moral stand points from both sides. Personally I have no comment... b/c both sides of the issue have strong points. |

really there are other sexual topics? anyways... let me put it this way... A lot of rapists BLAME pornography. A lot of them consider it as what lead them to "visualize" such proceedings. Certain people have what is known as OSA (online sexual addiction) a lot of them blame porn for turning them into having OSP(online sexual problems) ..which then moves them on. I'll post my essay when I'm done. |

Is this against rules? Well check this post. I certainly think that raping doesn't come from Online pornography. I think they just blame it on that too find a way out of jail. |

....No, I don't. And maybe we should have a debate sub-forum in Community Chat? There seems to be a lot of topics cluttering up this forum. :/ |

Well I'm in university, writing an essay worth 15% .. So I'm not asking anyone to write it or for help, since it would probably ruin my essay if I use someone's opinion as a reference, you won't see a sentence like this: "Coaster Rider, believes it doesn't cause rape." (Coaster, 2005) The essay is actually pretty much done. The reason I'm asking is simply out of interest in people's reaction to such a topic. I guess that's the only help that would be derived. I think the "help" is more referring to people who ask for answers to specific questions (correct me if I'm wrong, if I'm wrong then no biggy just delete this thread) |

I think it's a yes and no type of answer. Mainly no for 99% of people but there are people who are influenced by things such as games and movies so it's possible but I highly doubt such a person is of sound mind, especially if it causes them to rape someone. :/ You can't actually blame a movie 100% for committing a crime and claim you were a nice, normal, no worries or any problems person before hand. It doesn't just go *click* and you're suddently wanting to rape someone. There has to be something in the mind that wants to do it, perhaps a traumatic experience or just mental illness, who knows. So yes it can for some people but not for your average Joe. Or at least I've never heard of anyone who's been influenced by games or movies to do bad things that was of sound mind. |

Pornography does not casue rape. I believe that a study proved that rape was a mental illness. It involves being able to overpower a person and is a high on the actuial violence, not the sexual activity. Pornography is used for sexual purposes. Rape makes the Rapist feel as if he is in power which is what rape is all about. |

Ok, let me give you 2 other scenarios. One is hypothetical, one is based on an actual scenario that happened: 1) A man loves watching Hentai anime of men raping women, or simply photos of real peope that suggest such actions. He finds a great attraction to this and watches it frequently. A man is a peeping tom. Twice a week or so he'll climb a tree to watch his neighbour undress. Are either of these man likely of commiting rape? |

No. Amusingly enough, I did an extensive report on the link between pornography and rape in college English as well. 30 pages, I believe. :'( Maybe I could try to find it for you. After you've been graded on yours, of course.. I learned an awful lot about human sexuality Anyway, all the evidence is against it. What we have is a bunch of opportunists trying to take advantage of the legal system by foisting the blame onto something or someone other than themselves. Same with the losers trying to blame heavy metal or rap or TV for their behavior. I don't doubt that many rapists have legitimate issues. That seems fairly obvious. However, I can pretty much guarantee you, and this is backed up by research, that viewing porn actually decreases the likelyhood of rape and various other crimes. Repression and denial of one's normal desires is much more likely to cause problems. However, porn may incite the occasional person to try to catch a glimpse of his neighbor or something benign like that, after seeing a lot of that specific sort of thing, but that's rather like jaywalking in comparison to rape, and people simply cannot be influenced to commit serious offenses in such a manner. You can't even get somebody under hypnosis to commit rape unless they're a rapist by nature.
Indeed. That 1% could just as easily be influenced by seeing a woman's pantyline while walking down the street, or seeing a cloud which they think looks like breasts, or perhaps by the smell of peanut butter. They're not right in the head, and we can't go restricting everyone else's freedoms because of a few nutters. |
