well anythign You make it Copyrighted under the United States but to Really Copyright it would take money and time, then You can't because well Invivisonfree is copyrighted to Duffman and You cant copyright somehtign thats copyrighted. I do believe this is right. |

There's no difference between "copyright" and "really copyright". Any time you publish material to a media, whether book, tape, the Internet, etc, it is automatically copyright (usually under the laws of your home country, but the laws are basically the same in each country). You can register your copyright with your country's copyright office for a small fee. This benefits you because you receive a certificate as proof that you are indeed the copyright owner, which is good if you ever go to court over copyright.  However, it is not necessary to register a copyright.

Any media or public material that you have published or created will automatically be credited to you and is copyright by you. So, there really is no need to copyright it. But, if you want to legally and financially persue a copyright violator, you would have to register it with to your copyright office for a small fee. |

Copyrights It really winds me up when so and so says such and such is copyright to me, use the copyright or serious legal action will be taken! because that is the biggest load of BS you will ever here lol. Yea invisionfree is copyright to duffman and he can take legal action, but noone can do anything other than speak to duffman if you dont use their copyright. On the other hand if they go to court, pay around £750 and go through the painstakingly long six months to get the item/items registered and copyrighted then they can take action. But i very much doubt this will ever happen. |

Taking legal action is quite different than getting somebody's forum or website threatened or shut down, which is rather easy.

But saying that PhranK shutting someones forum down for not using a copyright is a little OTT, for instance the forum owner could claim the skin as their own, knowing its not, duffman wouldnt know Really made the skin.......would he? |

Well, if the skin is just colors, there's really no way to tell unless whoever made the skin included some idiosyncrasies in the code. You can't really copyright a simple color combination, as far as I know, since it could be arrived at independently, but if every color is exactly the same, the odds would be too great for it to be a coincidence. But most cases of skin ripping are related to graphics, not HTML color codes, and those are even easier to solve, especially since most skins come from the few main skinning resource sites. |

If someone ripped your skin via stealing your gradients, and other images, then duffman can shutdown the forum of that other user (provided you give proof of being the author for the skin) |

It's free. It's merely a "some rights reserved" site. You create a license, add it to your site and people then know your rights: You are free: to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work to make derivative works to make commercial use of the work Under the following conditions: Attribution. You must give the original author credit. For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the license terms of this work. Any of these conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder. Your fair use and other rights are in no way affected by the above. Basically CC licenses allow you to keep your work copyrighted but grant others the ability to use it on the condition of ensuring copyright remains intact and the author is given full credit. |
