Board Rules Issue; anybody else annoyed?

Does anybody else hate it when boards have too many rules and such? It makes it seem like you're scared to post or that moderators are just jerks. I understand strict rules is to keep things in order but rules sometimes rule out so much that you don't know what to post anymore because you're afraid their going to add something else to forbid you!

Like for example..

HERE: This place is cool but there's a Board Rules, there's a rules above every forum, AND there's sticky topics forbidding different thnigs in EVERY forum. The only reason I don't dodge this place is because the moderators are understanding and don't ban every member on site! Maybe you guys should organize everything in to 1 thing in every forum, that's a good suggesrion.

IFSZ: This place is cool too and I don't mean to single out sites but I'm just using it as an example. It's hard to post there because not only do you have to abide the Board Rules, the rules above every forum, the indivual pinned topic rules, the forum info rules.....BUT you have to have certain amount of posts in order to post in certain forums. How are you supposed to post in the first place?! On top of that mods are deleting/closing your stuff when they get a funny hair up there butts even if it doesn't go against the rules.

The ponit is... is most people do this and their trying to be professional about it, but it's nothing but a havoc when the forum itself isn't professional itself. What are your opinions on over strict rules on different boards? How do you think it could be modified to make it easier on newcomers who don't have 5 hours of there day to study every forums own "Law Index"?

Forums that are meant for specific things should have rules like:

"This forum is for general support and ALL other subjects outside will be deleted with a warn. This is includes and is limited to: Asking for help, helping members, and providing RIGHT info."

This way it rules out and makes it simple to understand and rules out the ignorance of other OFF topic posts such as backseat moderating.

This is up for "MATURE" discussion.

No. Rules are made for reasons. If you don't like them, then leave.

Humor me, let's say that all the mods removed every forums own guidelines. Imagine what would happen. Forums would get crammed with the same stupid topics, and it would be so chaotic that about three times as many members would have to be banned because of it.

Oh wait! What they were doing was never mentioned as being against any rules posted somewhere, so they get off scot free and continue to harrass and spam the boards. Eventually, you'd get cold mods, angry members, and a big drop is the arrival of new users.

But that's just what would happen in a nut shell. :)

Lol what are you people ignorant?

@fac3full

Excuse me? This is for mature debate about ways to "organize" rules. If you don't like it you don't have to post in this topic. I never said anything about disliking the rules, I dislike the fact there's extreme amounts of rules in over 3 portions of the board. Did you not read my post at all or do you need extra explanation?

@deat

I don't know where you're getting off, I never said anything about removing the rules. Read the post again.

Did you guys read just my first paragraph or what? This is why I put MATURE debate at the end of it because you get people thinking they know what's going on posting their user input spamming up the topic.

It appears both you and I don't read the rules.

No back seat moderating!
I disagree. Rules are needed, and such a large board like this requires many rules.

This and resource boards like IFSZ have specific rules for certain sections because they have a specific purpose (to get support, to request a graphic/skin). They are not for chit chat so guidelines and boundaries have to be marked.
When you go to a government institution, there's rules (fill in this form, take a ticket and wait for your turn).

The one thing I will agree with is, in the case of topics, rules should be kept in one topic. Multiple topics with rules is bad organization. Make one topic with multiple posts or bump it every time a new rule is added or an update is made.

The rules on top of each forum, like these boards have, are necessary as many people don't even read the pinned topics >_<. It helps flush out those that didn't read the pinned topics. But, of course, there are still some who completely miss the pinned topics AND the rules on top of the forums. :eh:

No flaming. If anyone flames again, expect a warning.

All you need to do is moderate your expressions. It is not that hard.

Have a good day. :)

The bigger and busier a board is, the more rules are needed. And especially if it's a popular board you get all sorts of idiots who don't know the first thing about proper forum behavior.
So no I don't mind on a place like this or IFSZ. You have to adjust your rules as the board grows.

What I don't like is a board starting out with all sorts of strict rules and limitations without the content and member action to justify it, that seems very lame to me. But even though I'm somehat of a hippy when it comes to rules (the less the better - peace love and understanding :P ) I think it's unrealistic when it comes to a big popular board.
If you don't like too many rules, find a small board with a nice and relaxed atmosphere and loose rules... my best advice ;)

Here's an example of a board that has no moderators that daily or even monthly check the board. EA Sports (Electronic Arts) has a board that has no moderators. When a spammer comes all you can do is report the posts to someone who could care less about the board. They just ban the member (but not the IP address) Therefore they come back and spam us again and again. Now must of the members (including me) left that place and went to Invisionfree and created our own forums. Just an example of a board that has rules and doesn't enforce them.

The moderators here usually do a very good job of being fair (and sometimes funny)... :angel:

Ah Zenith, I'm not the type of person to flame another as I believe there is no reason to. However, ignorance is unappropriate behavior that derives immature comments and is not a flame of any sort. If ever the name calling of a person would ever get out of hand I would of course back down because it is silly on the other persons part as this this is just an online "board" on not anything else. I made this topic for discussion of organization of rules and how other people might comment about it, I did not make the topic for any reason else.

If other members seem to look at it as a flame incite then that is upon themselves and their own perception of the world. If a poor way of holding debate is thier choice it doesn't mean it's mine. :)

@members
Where did I say "No Rules" hm? I never claimed those words.

Where is the logical reason to back your opinion? If you have a better view please let me know as this is a debate topic. I'm all open for progession, however if your going to whine about stuff I never said then you have no business posting in a topic you're not going to read. Any other "spam" unrelevant to the topic I expect should be deleted. I don't appreciate it what-so-ever. I never dodged any mods in this forum.. I think the mods do a great job.. if I meant to dodge the mods here my input about them would've been a copy/paste of IFSZ. Back on topic!

My problem with your theory is that if you put all the rules into one forum no one would ever care to look at them. At least when their in the same forum you wish to post in all you have to do is look up and think twice about maybe I shouldn't post this or maybe I shouldn't post it here. If the rules are all in one forum then members would never make the connection.
