If your teen is being influenced then perhaps they are not completely of sound mind.

cut the bits that stood out. Surely you know how much everyone is affected by media? The stuff people in my high school talk about disturbs me. The stuff my sister watches is just inappropriate. I'm sorry a bunch of loud noise singing songs about suicide, and death. She's bought merchandise of these bands which consists of black t-shirts with images of the band that are odd sometimes disturbing. Especially the lyrics of songs.

Yes but my point is everyone has free will and isn't forced to do copy anyone, if they do it's generally of their own free will (or perhaps not depending on certain things) butI can't honestly see how, say, a gothic group can be blamed for murders or suicides.

I mean is there any actual evidence that people who are apparantly doing things they wouldn't normally do are doing them because they are being forced (or "influenced") or rather that they already thought about it and it's helped make their mind up?

My brother listens to heavy metal, he doesn't go around biting animals heads off, killing people or wearing black make up. If he did, I would consider myself a moron to blame what he listens too as he does have a mind of his own. I say the same for teens even though they do tend to do things because they think it's 'cool'. They aren't forced to, music can't force someone to do something but rather perhaps spur on something that was already deep in their mind.

But hey if I see evidence that disproves my theory then I'll shut up.

 The fact that the PTC is worried about the media's influence from silly things like music videos and whatnot on MTV instead of something of substance like the media's influence from truly disturbing things like the misinformation, disinformation, and misdirection on every single corporate "news" station and program on television is highly amusing, and really says a lot about their character.

The difference Phrank is concerned mothers rule what goes on tv. What do you think they care more about? Misinformation or children watching sex, profanity etc? :/

Well the last time I checked, I'm a republican. :unsure:

MTV, Fuse, Playboy TV have restrictions on them. If the children want to watch it, they watch it. It's up to their parents to know what they watch on TV. If parents really cared about their children, they would at least modify the channels on the TV.

And second, are you guys democrat? :rofl:

There is also ratings on the TV. People made that so parents can see which programs are right for their children too watch.

Indeed.

But it's only a problem because their vocal minority is among the few that whine speak up about what's on TV, so the advertisers get scared and threaten to pull their ads, which would mean the shows lose their funding.

If the more rational among us would voice our opinions more often, they'd be seen as the irrelevant group of meddlers they truly are, and would be ignored.

 I think tv stations should say what ever the hel* they want to. I am one who deeply belives in the first amendment. If you don't want to see it or you don't want someone you know to see it you should just block the channel or just not go to it. I like Canadas (I am canadian) pollicy on T.v. censorship. It is none. Canada dosn't censor anything (practially) off tv, and I think that is how it should be.

Do you honestly have reason to believe a kids show would start swearing? I know that if there wasn't censors, it's be allowed, but even the producers and marketers would use common sense and not let them swear. They know who they want to direct the show to, so putting in bad words for a show directed towards those who are learning to speak, wouldn't be good for ratings anyways.
