BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A founding member of Korn is leaving the band to focus on his religious beliefs. "Korn has parted ways with guitarist Brian `Head' Welch, who has chosen Jesus Christ as his savior, and will be dedicating his musical pursuits to that end," said a statement posted Tuesday on Korn's Web site.

Welch told The Bakersfield Californian that his decision might be surprising to some. "A lot of people think I'm crazy. I don't care."

Welch said he'd become increasingly disenchanted with producing heavy metal music that invokes dark and morbid images.

"Those guys in the band, they're not bad guys. They're just a bunch of kids getting marketed how these guys in the big corporate firms want to do," Welch said. "It makes us look like bad people, but we're really just a bunch of kids who never had a chance to grow up."

Korn is working on its eighth album, set for release later this year. The band's self-titled 1994 debut album sold more than 2 million copies.

Brian recently spoke to a crowd of 10,000 at Valley Bible Fellowship in California about his past struggles and new life in Christ. To hear his testimony, visit his new website at www.headtochrist.com

One thing to say: wow. OK, two things: I admire this guy tremendously. :phrank:

I heard about this a few days ago on the radio.
Very sad.
Hopefully it's just a phase.

Its a shame, He was a good guitarist. One of the better Modern Guitarists around.

In "Another Brick in the Wall" (Their version, obviously), was it Welch that did that Solo in the middle of the song?

here its opposite... no modest mouse.. lots of korn

no bright eyes... ever.

my station is doing a wierd thing... see they realized that a lot of their listeners liked the old alternative (smashing pumkins/ Stone temple pilots / nirvana) ..so they started playing those more often..but now that the years are going further..tehy moved into the later alternative/rock/whatever (korn / beastie boys later stuff / ) ...ok i can't explain it. ..jsut know im not happy with my station and barely listen to it now...

i just go to launch radio and listen to indy rock :D
