I need moderators but no one is interested?; My board is growing but nobody...

Do you ask for Moderator's? Me I look for them, I look who is actually active and a good member, and I ask them if they would like to become a Moderator.

Personally, if you ask for people to moderate your forum you end up being at a larger risk of attaining utter cretins who will try to destroy your board when they're board than if you hand pick them yourself.

It's best to pick them, pick people you trust and like and would get along with, don't want moderators who annoy the hell out of you now do you? :/ Of course it's easy to misjudge people but I think if you watch members for several months you can get to know how they'd be if they were in the position where as if you say there's an opening and people can apply they will start to suck up and you'll only see their 'good' side. I learned that lesson the hard way. >_< Never again.

And as your board goes, include other staff in such decisions. I think it's a bad sign when people are upped to staff without warning or even consulting the staff. I know some forums have several admins who do that kind of thing but let the staff know but I think if you hold some sort of poll and ask how the staff feel you'll get more respect and better results. Staff members who dislike each other are a remedy for disaster. :angel: Plus it shows faith in your team, I mean would many people be ok if someone was upped to a staff position on a board they work on without consultation? I think it shows a lack of respect towards the staff as well as little faith in their opinions.

Gah...sorry, that sounds like a rant. >_< I worked at a board that did exactly that. :/ I was a Comm Manager and someone was promoted to Comm Mod without my notice or consultation. <_< It annoyed me to say the least. :r

Hence I say hand pick your staff from people you like and trust and as you grow, let the staff join in the decisions. :w00t:

Now that will be $6 for the advice and $3 for the parking fee. :P

 We always vote on new staff members on hyph. my members can always apply for staff ofcource. we just archive them and if their name is said we look in there. theyr chances dont improve by sending a request to join staff tough. occasionaly it is used as a record of their deeds. :r

Ok my board is growing quite well but i realy need some moderators and no one wants to do it :( What could be putting them off? alot of them are keen to post and get involved but just arent interested in moderating :unsure:

You want a MODerator, PM me i moderate like 5 boards as a G-Mod, unfortunately none of them are two popular, i have good expirence, but im very strict.

 I agree with OcelotJay, take his advice.

Hand-picking staff will not only give you a better team, but asking people personally will also make them feel special. While a general (and slightly desperate ?) appeal for mods is implying that you don't know anyone that would be good mods but you'll take what ever comes along anyway. Not all that appealing :/

Also, take your time to explain the people you ask what being a mod requires... let them know that it's not a full time job and that there will be other mods too, should they not be able to get online all the time.
Or just ask them what is holding them back, maybe you'll be able to convince them that it's nothing to worry about - or maybe they really do have a good reason not to mod. Like 'oh no, becomming a mod will turn me into dr jekyll and mr hyde' :ph34r:

 Lol, great stuff. I think the big problem if finding people who actually know something about what they are moderating. If you've looked at my board you'll see that I need moderators who know something about F1 and the teams forum they are moderating. I have approached many people but most say they are too busy or already moderating several boards :(
