Like the other brits above me. Confused! Am 15 now and will be 16 in June before the end of the school year? Here I'm year 11, there I dont have a clue. I'sd have a wild guess at 11th grade but unsure. |

Eh... I have no idea about American grades either... But i'm in Year 10 of community college (that's after high school). No idea what that is in 'grades' :unsure: |

You're not the only one.  I'm in Grade 10 of that wonderful world called High School. Incidentally, Student Teacher Season just opened.  So I have two more years of high school, and then approximately four or five years of post-secondary school--most likely university, as I'll probably obtain a nice shiny degree. Maybe math or English . . . muwahahahahaha.

but it's year 10 because you're still counting the other years? Someone from England mentioned 6th form to me. It's like a prelude to University for the smarties? Others go to a college type thing, which can also open the door to University. Different system :wacko: Can't remember anything else. I'm out of school. Finished uni last year, Thank God! One more year and my brain would be fried. Not saying that can't happen with working too >_< |

Year 10 is counting all the other years, yes. And 6th form is basically the name for years 13, 14 and 15 I think. You normally leave after year 11 (16), but you can stay on in 6th form for years 13, 14 and 15 (I think). Normally this is at the same community college you've been in for year 10 and 11. Or rather than going into 6th form you can go to another college, one which doesn't have a year 10 and 11 I think, then university. So in other words... Primary school (Year 1 - Year 6) > High school (Year 7 - 9) > Community college (Year 11 - 12) > Leave school OR 6th Form OR go to another college > University Yes, it can be confusing :blink: I think that's right... :unsure: |

not quite right... high school (or secondary school as it was called for me) is from 11-16 (from year 7-11), then you can goto college for years 12 and 13 (17-18 years old) or goto 6th form if your school has it, which is pretty much exactly the same as college, just in the same school and more of a rounded curriculum (ie teaches the core subjects rather than you choosing more of a specific subject). So, i went to secondary school and stayed on for the 6th form. Then went to university. Hopefully that makes sense... |

Strange, I had secondary/high school (year 7-9), now i'm in community college (year 10 - 11). Two different schools. I can stay on here until 6th form or go to another college. Maybe it works differently in the midlands? :/ |

Generally, in America, there are four types of school. Elementary, (years 1-6) Junior High, (7-8) High. (9-12) Then there's college, which you usually attend for 4 years. Of course it's not always four years, you could attend longer or shorter. If you go at all. Hope that explains it for all you in Britain.
