Deleted User	windows XP with windows ME on an older computer that im turning intoa server eventually. some sort of UNIX OS is running on my old 8000.00 dollar 185Mhz Silicon Graphix thats down in the basement. and i wont be supporting Linux AT ALL until they can get there act togethor and actually produce some overall singular linux distro. im sry but when there is like 15-30 high end need toget linux distros out there i dont see a reason to even get into it until they all decide to release one major one. [begins warming his flame shield]

There are more than one distros because everyone is different. The difference between distros is pretty much only the user interface, and its size (how many default programs it kept, and how many new ones it added).

The rest is just how it is configured. 2) Different distros are for different things. Something like Debian makes a very good server OS. Something like Ubuntu or SuSE is great for the desktop. The only difference is in what programs are included (and since they're all free, you can get any distro however you like) 3) You can even build your own Linux from scratch (LFS) or compile it all yourself (Gentoo). Linux is about choice. The distros will never go away.

Another windows 98 user here XP is to dumbed down from the older versions, Microsoft wanted to make it simple for everybody and thought making buttons shinier would do it. They perhaps should have realised that people would prefer something that worked. I will stick with 98 until software no longer runs on it, and then i probably won't upgrade to XP, it sucks (Before people moan at me saying "give xp a chance" i had it on my computer for ages, before downgrading again due to its inherant rubbishness
