Rival Boards trashing!

Hello,

I set up a music forum 2 weeks ago,all was going well.I had left a previous music baord and although I posted occasionally there I concentrated on my board more.I recieved over 100 members from various different boards and the forums were a huge success.

BUT

A rival baord(not invision) encouraged members to sing up and rpint pornographic images as well as call all my users swear words. They caused absolute chaos. They even gave advice to their members on how to get around an IP ban(deleting cookies). It took me all night to undo the damage and I now find my self really stressed out everytime a new user signs up.I said I'd complain them but they said as they are with V bulletin there's nothing I can do.

Please help.My site is going to be ruined by them :'(

You could stop letting people join for a while until you get everything sorted out. That won't help the problem itself, but it will buy you time to negotiate with the other forum.

How does deleting cookies undo an IP Ban?

Doesn't V Bulletin have a report thing?
Just report this to them, as such things are (or should be :P ) against there rules.
(Or is V Bulletin a board you host yourself? In that case try contacting there host)

And if all else fails just do the same with there board :P

vBulletin sucks. I've used vBulletin, phBB, and Proboards. I'd say InvisionFree takes the cake.

Anyways, britneysboy, why don't you try reporting a vBulletin TOS violation to the vBulletin service? I'm sure that tellng ppl to post pornographic material is a violation? :r

Please do not be rude to other members. Our users have the right to ask how to protect themselves, and it sounds like you should be doing the same thing.

vBulletin, as far as I know, is not service/does not offer a service. It's a downloaded forum that people upload and host themselves.

Reporting it to the vBulletin website if they're not hosting it; I don't think will do anything. They paid for the forum software; what they do with it I don't think vBulletin can control/is reponsible for.

The place to go, would be the host that the guy has for the vB board. and show the host what those people are doing on their server. Show them everything. If they're posting porn on their own forum, well they may be allowed to if they payed for a hosting plan that lets you do it. If you find threats and info posted to their forum about attacking yours take those posts, and report them too ESPECIALLY.

edit:

They're half right. But here's the catch; I dont think anyone can take away the forum software they paid for, but, it needs to be hosted by somebody, right? the hoster can take away the webhost that they use to host it.

Bingo! I did that to a site that was ripping my stuff, and sending me vulgar, and threating e-mails. There site got shut down, and then they were repoted to there ISP.

You could disable new user registrations temporarily. ;)

Admin CP --> System Settings --> Security & Privacy --> Disable new registrations? --> Yes

There's one thing though I would do. They may think that you got their site closed, and then they'll attack your forum. Just disable new registrations for a while after their site gets shutdown so they can't do anything. Validation would work but then they could spam the signup form :/ no hurt to your board but a lot to clean up.
