I saw nothing in the board rules against this so:

I have a freind you thinks he is overweight. He told me today that he is skipping all meals to try and lose the weight. I know not eatting isn't good for you, but he said with in about seven days he should loose about five pounds (the amount he wants to loose). I have no big problem if he skips meal for a week (it isn't that bad), but would we really loose that much weight that fast?

Please don't Post: "OMG1!11! Don't let him do it." I am not asking for your moral opion I want to know if not eating for that short of a time would do anything. I know a few people here are studing to become doctors, or very smart. I tried google already :/

If this is against the rules give me a link that says were, because I certainly didn't see one.

Actually if anything the effect would only be temporarely.

Immagine when your sleeping, your fasting. The entire time your sleeping your not getting any food. During that entire week, his body will fast, but when he eats again, his body will still be in a fasting mode, making his body store his foods.

It just dosent work =\

He is actually very active, and eats a pretty good diet. He thinks if he can get tit off he can keep it off, but it just won't go away. Is his logic flawed? Oh he is 13 so ...

OMG1!11! Don't let...

Is he skipping all meals for a week or just one a day?

I'm not sure fasting would do it. He can't just cut out his diet completely (well he can but..), it would be too drastic of a change. I suggest lots of exercise and healthy eating. If he doesn't eat, where will his body get his energy to do things?

Hmm, did you try searching Google for the effects of fasting?

The best way to lose weight would be losing it over a space of time. Actually, eating healthy is better for you, and makes you lose more weight than stop eating completely for a period of time.

I wouldn't do that, nor would I throw up after I had eaten the meal, and nor would I pay excessive amounts of money, for some doctor to stick a tube in my stomach. The best healthy way is to eat sensibly, exercise a lot, and actually feel good about you.

He should skip lunch, but not eat for one week! Heck, no.

That might cause Anorexia

Throwing up after a meal is Bulemia.

Probably, but sense isn't one of his storng suits. I just want to know if he would really loose that much weight that fast. If not I will have to beat him with a club untill he eats.

Yeah, Bulimia. (No pun intended, :P).

Also, losing five pounds in a week isn't good for you at all. That could really only be done with someone who was obese. :)

Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall.

Skipping all meals will not be good health wise. The ideal thing to do is eat the good stuff and nothing after dinner. 7pm is normally the time to stop I think. Anyway the human body needs food to survive i believe 7 days is the limit. I'd recommend small breakfast and lunch consisting of healthy stuff of his choice and then the dinner is the big meal with all those fun things you need to lose weight. That's what the nutrionist told my sister anyway. Also its possible even with a diet proscribed it won't work for that individual due to food allergies for instance yeast is a biggie, or another medical issue.

If he eats a lot the now, I doubt he'll last a half day. no offense. Though people who eat big, can't just switch off food like you switch off a TV screen.
