 It was funny in that "Hmm.. I wonder if this is really happening or if I just did too much shrooms over the weekend again" sort of way.

I had to explain this to my friend Joe a few weeks ago when we were talking about plans for a TV show or something we're considering, but essentially, it's far more funny to have some irrational and bizarre things offset by normal things, than to just have a bunch of weirdness going on.

For example, you don't want aliens playing basketball in a bowling alley while dressed as ballerinas, but you might want people bowling in a bowling alley, minding their own business, when a ballerina walks up, replaces one of the bowling balls with a basketball, and calmly wanders off.
Both scenarios are certainly strange and unlikely, but the first is just overly bizarre, while the second is more random and surreal, and therefore, generally more funny.

I realize neither of those examples is very funny, but I didn't want to give an example that I might actually want to use later. ;)
