When I click Archive it doesn't ask me to log in. It only displays the forums I have open to guests. But even when I'm logged in it won't show me anything else. :ermm:

The archive feature is mainly for search engines, so if you only have a certain amount of forums viewable for guests, it is all the search engines will see anyway.

This should allow your board to get a higher google ranking due to it being indexed better.

I have a few questions about the Archive feature:

1. How often is it updated?
2. Will deleted topics appear in them, after the archive is updated?
3. Is there a way to manually edit/delete the archived topics?
4. Is there a way to initiate an archiving sequence yourself, or set the frequency of archiving?
5. (can also be considered a feature request) Is it possible, now or in the future, to download the entire archive in a ZIP (or other format) file? (for personal archives) (so you have the entire archive stashed onto your own computer)

The most important questions of those are the ones about the frequency of archiving and the moderation of archiving. If, for example, you have a topic that would get you in jail for 20 years both on the forums itself and in the archive, and you want to delete it ASAP... you get what i mean, so deleted topics aren't re-accessible using the archive feature.

The archive feature seems automatic to me (as this topic is now at the top of the list on the archive section for this board). I believe it also removes topics if they have been removed or deleted.

To alter topics or posts in the archive, you would just have to alter the actual topics or posts in the forum I think.

However, I do not know the in's and out's, so either Duffman or someone else who is more knowledgable about the feature should be able to provide a greater insight into the feature.

edit: It essentially provides a static version of your forum for search engines to pick up easier :)

Hmm yes, it does seem to auto-update constantly... Okay, thanks for pointing to that.

A small extra feature would be to add a link to every topic saying 'View archived version' or something, maybe there are some people who want to see a plain version of the topic they're reading.

We will add that once you can view the archive as a logged in user.

Which is available right now. :)
I can see the archive link at the bottom of the page, and I'm also logged in. ;)

EDIT: And I can fully access it, which means it's fully available to logged in members. B)

I think Brandon means something slightly different. In that you can see what you should if you are logged in possibly, or maybe other features.

Currently you can only see what guests can see i think.

You mean as in post in "IF-Speed" (A name I thought for it) and other things? This is another forum system we're talking about here. :)

Eh? What i mean is that currently if you look at the archive, you can only see what guests can see. Brandon might bee looking into making it so you can see what your usual permissions allow you to, or possibly other features enabled within the archive that are only usable if you are logged in.

Not sure what you are on about

Indeed, notice that ratings & games - a forum only visible to members - does not appear on the archive page ;)

I meant posting in the archive version. It would be faster. ;)

Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall.

The board administrator requires all members to log in

meaning since archive is only viewable by guests, they can't view a thing until they register. And once they register, it doesn't do anything but give the same error because the archive is only for guests right now.

Are you going to set the page up in WAP/WML? because i noticed with some WML things they can't be viewed in a computer browser but they can be viewed on a mobile. I use WAP/WML quite a bit but mobile forums are taking there place on the mobile net even thought they charge you per "k".
