I know InvisionFree is probably the best forum service, including free & paid. And I know Proboards.com has bad features, but wasn't IF easier to code since it was almost completely built off of IPB? I mean Proboards has to built it all themselves, correct? They never had IPB, or someone else to base their code off of... |

You'd be surprised how different IPB 1.3 looks from IF now. The analogy I can think of is like a maggot that eats from the inside until only a shell is left... but that sounds icky. Still, same concept. |

Probably not. I have talked to Duff before about him coding this site, and he said that he could have made invisionfree from the ground up, so he probably spent as much time editing IPB as proboards spent making themselves. |

Keep telling yourself that, and you might try it, and when you do you will post a year later saying how hard it was

I don't think ProBoards was hard to code at all seeing as how bad it is. You can't really say that InvisionFree was hard to code because it's basis was IPB v1.3.1, IF v2.0.0 is obviously hard to code seeing as how long it's taking to finish. |

Actually, the guy's got a point. When Duffman originally took Invisionfree v1.3 and edited it for IF..not all that much was changed, no? Other than the ACP, of course. Over the years, a lot of things have changed, sure. But initially, not all that much was different. Where as the Proboard-makers did have to code a completely custom, from-scratch software. Not that coding Invisionfree in anyway or form is easy. But the guy does have a point. And just because Proboards is "bad" [it's not really. Not the best by any means-nah, I hate Proboards, mehself. But I know a few forums using it that've worked with it heavy, and make pretty nice boards regardless], doesn't mean it's not hard to code. |

You see, If was made from IPB 1.3. From the core, Duff was seizing control of the IPB system to shape it to his liking. Much like How Hitler got power Or Revolutionaries. The start from the inside, and continue to the outsie. Now IF 2.0 will have that analogy, cept the core is IF. And Proboards is hard to code, but seriously, they code, but not give flexibility and niceness. |

You have to remember that not only are the features slightly different for IF compared to IPB, but the way the system works is completely different. Otherwise it wouldn't be able to run how it does. IF2 is a complete fresh start, much in the same way as ProBoards was. Why do you think that IF2 has taken so long to come around? |

Of course it's not going to be easy to code but I'm just saying if you look at how simple the ProBoard's system is it doesn't really look that complicated. |

Getting control of the boards isn't hard if you have access to the database.
It does? I have an Invision Power Board 1.2 and it doesn't look that different. I did install a lot of the features Brandon had installed. I expect that Brandon got a copy of IPB when it was free. He might have used that and changed the system so that once database could hold many boards. I expect he will have to program IF 2 based on the ideas in IPB 2. Since it has a licensing system, he can't just use it on this forum service. I don't think you can patent the idea though, so Brandon should be able to create IF 2 based on IPB 2. I think the "archive" feature is based on the idea of the "lo-fi" feature in IPB 2. |
