I was discussing many of these things with Matt today, and what we concluded, it is post count what many people want, and it's because they think a high post count will get you a seat on the Staff team, which is completely untrue.

PhranK argued many times that post count should be disable don this board, or there should just be random numbers there, which I agree with, because it's utterly useless, the amount of posts you have won't dictate whether you should become staff or not, it's the quality of your support, it's the real activeness you display on the board, and it's the way other people see you, someone likeable, or not.

Then again, I've only been here for less than 2 weeks, but it's these things I've picked up browsing through this forum and talking to many other people on the staff team.

Theres a differance between wanting a higher postcount, and spamming to get it.

And again, people are just going with the cowrd.

really Weird, I understood every single word you posted

And I agree. If only we could get seth to come here for his opinion :/

In my opinion:

1) Postcount is important for determining reliability. I would like to lop off a few thousand posts from some members because they suck at giving support.
2) Spammers are easy to catch and punish.
3) Postcount gives legitimate helpers a small reward.
4) Postcount is off in general chat, where spamming usually happens anyways.

Thats true but I hate it when people think that when they have a high post count they will have a better chance at getting staff so they keep spamming.

If you guys took off the post count for the support forums I would still go there and give support because it's what I love to do. :)

^^, he just stated to do soemthing somone else has stated when he dosn't care about postcouns...

I was reminding the topic creater to refer back to Logik's post for help, if you read the topic you will see that vietboyhue was going crazy about his forum and not being able to delete it, I was merely reminding him to take Logik's idea into consideration because if he wants his forum deleted that is the only way he would go about doing it. I also gave him a link to the Support Ticket topic because no one else had done so, if you just told him to send a support ticket and he's never done so before he obviously won't know a thing about ths system.

So your saying what I did makes me want a higher postcount correct?

I'm saying I viewed it as spam.

I'm saying I viewed it as spam.

And I'm saying this conversation ends here. If you view it as spam, why not report it to a moderator rather than pointing it out in a topic? His post hardly seems like spam. If anything, your post above was far more ludicrous than his.

You then can break IFs T.O.S (and report yourself) or send a support ticket to request your board be shutdown.

Actually encouraging people to break the TOS in order to simply close their board. Are you serious?!? Did you actually think before typing that? Depending on what they do, they could end up actually violating a serious aspect and be denied access to IF completely. Your answer should have ended at the support ticket part, at least that made sense and didn't encourage what could be damaging behaviour.

But this isn't supposed to be a 'point out wrong support' topic so lets keep it on track. :)

Okay. ^_^
Destroy post count! Get rid of it forever, get rid of those useless spam now! ^_^
Now I look like I'm selling something. :ermm:
I support removing post count forever. :r

Everyone says they want post count turned off, but I wonder how many people actually feel that way or are just saying it. I for one do not want it turned off.

I want it turned off, it's nothing to do with others. :) I've always supported ridding of it.

Something interesting a forum I'm a member at did was not totally remove post count, but rather they removed it from being viewed in topics. You could still see it in the users profile but not when they posted. :) This actually worked a treat, because people couldn't see it much and considering so many people pay such little attention to profiles or bother going into them it stopped the high post count peeps from feeling like they were 'big guys'. Because of the lack of viewing profiles they couldn't lord it over people and spamming becaime irrelevant because the whole 'high post count = high ranking member' became a load of blibbly bub. Why? Because it wasn't shoved in your face. But it still remained in profiles so people could keep track of their own posts, as could others, it just reduced 260 people who thought they were elite to becoming lowly members like everyone else. :)

Of course, this forum I refer to isn't on IF and it's members mainly consist of 20-40 year olds who are mature, but with a fun side, which is probably why it worked. :r I do have serious doubts it would have the same effect but I think hiding the post count from topic view and keeping it strictly to profiles could maybe reduce the point of spam since hardly anyone is going to see it anyway and if nobody but the individual sees it, well, who's going to care whether you have 1 or 1,000,000? :)

Postcount is soooooooo overrated, darling. Posted Image

eh...No one is looking at your post count on here. Just your actual posts.

Besided, I dont even know which forums increase your count and such. :/

The only thing about turning it off is, then everyone would have thier same postcount. Like I'd have 1337, and someone else would say why thier poist count wasn't high and why some other people's were.

I don't give two hoots about post count or the amount of pips I have, it's all the same to me. It's just a number =/ Anyway I post mostly here but really all the time in the Graphics section as that's what I enjoy most and I like giving people advice and feeback on their work aswell as gain it from time to time aswell :)

Wouldnt it be funny, if for one day IF Support Forums (meaning :General Support, Coding Support, Skin Support forums) would not increase your post count if you posted in them? LOL

We would then see who posts to Actually Give support and Who posts just for post count.

I could have posted this somewhere else to increase post count, but i dont care about what that number is, although i dont know how to count farther than 30 :$ anyways

Anyways just sharing something i thought up just a few seconds ago

Cheers

Sorry if i reraise any ideas (didn't feel like reading 5 pages) but I this would be a really good idea, I was actually thinking of doing it for my next board, members would go crazy though.
