I posted at nearly the same exact time you did, your post came out before mine because I have 56K and it takes longer to post then your connection does, you, Jalba, and I pretty much posted at the same time. |

Yes I know that, trust me when I was viewing the topic it said there wasn't anyone else viewing it at the time, also it takes 5-10 more seconds for my internet connection to post then yours does.

Thats another reason I hate dial-up, I'll click the Add Reply button and nothing will happen, I click it a few more times, finally when it does work you come up with 3+ posts <_< , it gets so annoying. |

Everyone says they want post count turned off, but I wonder how many people actually feel that way or are just saying it. I for one do not want it turned off. I like knowing how often I've posted. It seems to me that the fashionable thing is to want post count turned off. I would still help in the support forums, and I'm sure most of you would too, but I don't think it would make a huge difference anyways. You're all going to disagree with me, but that's how I see it. The main reason for my saying so is this: I recently ran into the same situation as Maelroth. I read a Support Topic, and saw there was no one viewing it. I took the time to compose a decent, in-depth reply, and by the time I'd posted, there were four replies, three of which were from people who have posted in this topic. This leads me to believe that 1) Either the people are just going along with the crowd and calling for no post count becuase it's "fashionable", but they really don't want it turned off, and post only to in crease their post count, or 2) They sincerely wish that posts didn't count, and would still give support in the same fashion even if Post Count were removed. If option 2 is correct, removing post count would make no difference. If Option 1 is correct, then many of you are hypocrites. Please don't take this the wrong way, I respect all of you, and I think of many of you as friends, I just want you to take an honest look at this from another point of view. Thanks for reading.

Post count kinda doesn't make a huge amount of difference to me, because i've posted a lot of times in the non-$postcount++ forums, so it's almost lost meaning to me. However, i'm not 100% behind having it removed, it does serve a purpose, to both members and staff. |

post counts should stay. If this is only because of the support forum spammers, that can be resolved thru restriction which has been done. It's their (the spammers) problem if they turn grey one day. As for the multiple answers in a topic, there's one thing I don't think has ever been mentioned and it's related to this "don't post yet if someone else is reading the topic" rule/guideline. Say, you go to a topic and you click "Add Reply" but at the same time you right click on some other place so you can find the answer in the documentation forum or the snippets forum. You won't show up as viewing the support topic anymore cus you're off to somewhere else. So, 'sometimes' these multiple answer problems can be caused by just that. Of course, many times, it's basically the urge to answer first but meh. |

Actually, The_Balrog, I agree with you. People are just going along with the crowd. I think keeping post count is a good thing and I've always supported it when we had topics similar to this in the past. Nobody can hide from thine eyes. I watch each and every one of you active users in Support, so I can pounce when bad support is given. But I do watch how certain people help. So when I here someone say something that contradicts the way they act in Support, I can just giggle away in my little den...laughing and giggling...laughing and giggling.. I do notice people who make awesome, decriptive and even colourful posts and I appreciate that. I will keep a good mental note about the person. I don't expect someone to make an eye-appealing post, but when I see someone go out of their way to make something as descriptive and as helpful to the user as possible, then I appreciate it. But then I also notice the ones just spamming away. Not helpful and posting useless, undecriptive, repetitive, unrelated information. You make one slip up and I am watching you like a hawk. My goal then is that if you can't learn your lesson, I will hunt down all of your bad posts and get you restricted from support before you pollute the environment. :luna: |

Theres a differance between wanting a higher postcount, and spamming to get it. And again, people are just going with the cowrd.

I agree, not all of those who want a high post count spam, however most who spam want a high post count. :huh: When I refer to spam, I'm generally just referring to bad support such as undescriptive, unrelated things as well as the 'racing' that goes on in there. That is bad support. People don't need the same answer 5 times in their topic. You know, you can preview post to check if anyone has already posted before you.  One thing I notice is these people I see who make descriptive posts, aren't even particularily after a high post count. They aren't the ones waiting to jump out at the next new topic, the minute it is made. They are casual and are not in support for every minute they are on IFS. These users aren't 'racers' at all. :/ Ok, so if you want to be helpful, then don't try to post in every topic or repeat information. Be completely descriptive, as best you can. I know a couple people in this topic who need to take that advice. If you're not after post count, but you are out to be noticed, then you should pay attention. I would rather see you with a 100 post total, knowing you are very helpful in support, than 8000 posts, remembering that I've seen you spam a couple times. Post count or the amount of time you spend in support is insignificant if you can't do it right. |
