Force Guests to log in/register before viewing; just a cheap way to get members?

 Yeah, i dont really like that forcing guests thing. On my board, i let my guests view the entire forum, and its there choice if they wanna join... I almost got 40 members in one week :D

 I do use it, bucause my forum has a section to download bootlegs, otherwise many people would just check the bootleg section and that's it... now the've at least registered themselves

 It is not a cheap way to get members as most people will leave rather than bother signing up for something they know nothing about. Its like you buying a car without ever seeing it or asking questions and end up with 4 tires and a seat.

 I think its a cheap trick...the amount of forums I've joined just so I can then see that the forum is not what I want to be a part of...it sucks.

Most of my forum is open to everyone(guests included)but I have a few parts that are password protected...but not to keep just guests out.
