I'm not going to vote because I have two different explainations to this topic...

Yes, because the chance of getting new members to your board is greatly increased by having alot of affiliates.

No, because too many affiliates can keep your forum cluttered, and make your board look un-professonal, if you have the affiliates at the bottom.

It's only good if you're affiliated to a site thats rapidly getting members and you're active there. Not many people come if no one knows who owns it except the Root Admin.

i generally only affiliate with sites that are half my size or above and even then I have to have a good reason for doing it.

I'd say no, simply because affiliation isn't really known to attract a lot of members. Your affiliates will also bag on you, overrun your site, and ask you for pie. <_< Aggravating.

In the end, affiliation isn't too useful, and having a lot of forum pals can be hard to manage.

If you ever notice, all of the sucessful forums do not usually have afflifiates. Unless you have a professional way to do it, they are useless.

You'll be surprised how many actually do. It's just that resource sites like Advertising etc. get a lot of members from what they offer. So they don't need to affiliate. Successfull Boards that are themed on RPG, A game or Console. Actually have a fair few affiliates. Mind thought their affiliates are also big boards. :r

It allows the forums to have people and the 'invisionfree' ads at the top is what they will see. So from invisionfrees side, they are great.

me personaly, YES

I'd say no to lots of affiliates but yes to some, pending what they are. Personally, if the forum has a few affiliates with forums that are related to the subject or helpful websites then they are a good thing because they're providing a use for members but affiliating with just anyone seems desperate to me.

Personally? I affiliate with anyone offering-long as they plan to keep their forums/website up, and that I agree with the forums in mind.

As long as you know how to manage an affiliate's list right, clutter's not a problem. And I really, seriously doubt somebody's gonna go by an active, well-ran forums and go "OMG! THEY GOT AFILIAT3s!!!..me gona leave now plz."

I think Affiliates are fun to have unless they're too low on members.

I'm the same as Pats rule. I haven't voted, because I have two opinions for two options:

Yes - It would be great to keep in touch with other forums, so you could get more members.

No - The members on your forum might decide and stay on one of your affiliates and never com back.

It's tough having a forum, but cool too! :D

My main board has four affiliates, two of which I admin, one I global mod, and another which isn't even a forum, a fansite for someone.

I don't think they're much of a disadvantage, but they haven't been much of an advantage either. Most of the forums I'm affiliated with have members from the board I'm already on anyway, so it doesn't make much of a difference.

I have four affiliates aswell. we count on our affiliates to help us when we need them. having lots of affiliates just mean you get more members, most of the times these kinds of affiliates dont even know you.
