I think Cloudflare charges $5/mo/domain. It's hard to control costs external to the service itself.

To prepare, I'm writing up a post for my community members to ask them what they want to do. I imagine most will want to keep things as they are, and just take a chance with the new board. If so, I'll honor that decision because everything I do is for them. If elsewhere, I'm really liking what Jcink has to offer, so that's where we would probably go. Still, I would bet money that my members will want to just ride it out and see. From what I've seen of the themes available, I can at least make something palatable, if not the signature look we've had for over a decade.

Tapatalk does too. They have staff who will routinely go on sites and remove content that they disagree with. Another community that I am a part of recently switched from Tapatalk to another forum host because of this. We had content come up missing, turns out a TT staff member was responsible because they didn't like what was being posted. Cause you know, imaginary rules and all.

I disagree with that. Sock puppets should be left up to the decision of the board admin, not TT staff. On my board members are allowed one alternate account.

Public Affection. Don’t be overt.
The heck? So let's say your board has a married couple, they can't express their affection on the board? I have a married couple on mine, and so if they say I love you to each other, that is suddenly grounds to have my board removed? LOL.

Advertising Not Allowed. Don’t post advertising or marketing messages, even for non-profits.
Quite vague. Are you telling me I cannot advertise other boards, websites or services? What about a business that runs its message forum through ZB? I mean surely there would be some advertising of goods, services and marketing messages.

Affiliate links. Don’t include them in your post.
So that means I have to remove affiliated boards and sites now right? Again, that should be left up to the board admins, not TT staff.

The more I read, the more I'm sad. I run a "notepad" forum on ZB, everything I need at the moment I post there, and from what I read it soon will be a big no-no despite having my board offline since the day of its creation.

I hope some random TT idiot won't come to my board deleting stuff they don't like. I probably would murder someone if they would delete for example my translations for work...

Yeah that's a big issue I'm running into.

If you're running a smaller forum with less activity or just want one for testing and archiving purposes they don't want you.

Yeah, my board is tiny, but I can say we already break several of the Tapatalk rules. We have RP accounts, we allow people to be as loving and friendly as they like (sans harassment, etc), and swearing is allowed in the debate sections. Honestly, though, I was worrying more about people who have bigger, more complex board. Nicolas, for example, has a big, beautiful, complex, happy, and active forum. What will happen once Tapatalk takes over? Once it's ran through the bleaching process, and locked down with new rules that seem more likely to create a chilling effect instead of fostering a community?

Seriously, Brandon needs to let us access our databases. I'll drop some coin if I have to just so I can have it and take it somewhere where my little community can continue to be free to speak as they could when ZB was holding the reins. The more I look into Tapatalk's practices, the less I trust them, and I usually do well to go with my gut.
