Yes, well, your opinion is based on faulty logic, but you're welcome to it. 
It's neither foolish, nor stupid. Just because a parent tells you something, doesn't mean it's right. And besides, most parents don't try to stop kids from swearing, as they're not that foolish. Rather, they try to stop them from swearing excessively and in inappropriate situations.
No, I don't. Don't make assumptions about what I know or believe. In fact, as I said, I think it's good, or at least can be.
That's just... how old are you again? Nevermind. One of the best examples you can set for your children is to be who you are and not care so much about what others think about you. Doesn't mean you should go out of your way to offend people and scream the f-word during a wedding, obviously. But if you want to try to tell me there's anything wrong with swearing when by oneself, or with friends, or anywhere else where it wouldn't be rude, you should probably be on medication.:wacko: Or new medication, as the case may be. 
You can say never, if you want. I think that's absurd.
Yes, I do know that many words can be used to replace "bad" words. I also know that a word is just a word, and is meaningless in and of itself. A word is nothing without the intent and meaning behind the word. When you say "crap" instead of "sh*t", you're fooling yourself if you think it makes any difference at all. It has the same meaning and intent. A rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet.. and a crap, by any other name, still stinks. The only reason I would ever do such a thing is in situations like at this forum where certain words are allowed and others not, even though they have the same meaning. Swearing is swearing, whether you use watered-down, currently acceptable terminology or not. I realize that's not the most popular of views, but rational thinking isn't very popular these days. If you think swearing is bad, which I don't, but you seem to, you're clearly being a hypocrite. |

 I swear a lot, although mainly around my computer. It brings out the worst in me. I can normally control it where needs be, but I get done for swearing at school sometimes. >_< Stupid teachers, as if they have the right to decide which words are 'wrong' to say..Or stupid society for making these words 'wrong' to say. Either way, it's thick. |

so true...I tend to swear quite a bit... especially when I'm aggravated. Like every time someone from out lovely government is on the telly *cusses at danish government* But lately my 2 year old daughter have been picking up some of the words and I got kinda embarrassed :$ Not that she won't pick it up in kindergarden anyway, no matter what I do... And I must admit I like swearing when I'm pissed

I never used to swear very often.. but now I say the F word about 10 times a day  I blame it on my brother; cause ever since he became a cop a couple years ago.. he uses slang with the F word all the time.. So when you talk to him, you just end up saying it too; and soon it's just part of your common vocabulary. I don't consider it 'wrong' though, and even before I started saying it, I never found it crude or offensive. Nor do I forsee a time when I'll think back and regret using it :rolleyes:

Personally, I think that swearing is not the end of the world, but if you do it too often, it loses its meaning. In junior high, most kids say "mullet" every two words, so you get used to hearing it and it doesn't mean anything ata all. However, if used sparingly, cussing is really seful--someone who never cusses is definitely serious when they begin to use profanity. Using curse words all th time is just an excuse to be stupid. once in a while is not bad. EDIT: where it says mullet, you know what I mean.

That happens a lot, which is one of the reasons I said swearing is ok in appropriate circumstances. I don't really think swearing around a 2 year old is appropriate, as they definitely will parrot you in exactly the situations where you wouldn't want them to, like in church or school or at your grandparents' house or whatever. >_< And they're not really old enough to understand if you tell them they can do it at home with you but not around others. Personally, I find it amusing when I hear a two year old swearing, but I'd probably not feel the same if it was my kid and I had my inlaws over or something. |

I usually swear when I'm angry (which is quite often) or when I'm in a heated debate and overly excited (one of the many reasons I didn't try out for the school debate team). Like Phrank said, there's nothing wrong with swearing under the right circumstances! I have enough self-control to refrain from swearing when I stub my toe in a room full of two year olds, but if I do that around a group of people around my age, is anybody really going to care? |
