I had nothing better to do then to post a reply. She is brain dead. she cant and wont live a normal life. since when someone is in a persistant vegitative state there is no chance of her ever recovering to live a normal non tubed life. I dont see how they just dont keep the tube out. Its stupid to let someone live when you know they have no brain function. Thats why i think people should have a living will or sign a DNR. I have already signed a DNR so i am glad i wouldnt have to go through all of the same bull she is going through |

The woman is in a perminant vegitative state, she's not going to get better, and her parents have false hope. Her husband wants to let her die, and i know i wouldnt want to be kept alive liek that so i voted death. |

People always say this... How do they know? Her husband has warehoused her, and refused her therapy, giving us no chance to find out if she can recovery. Even if she can't, there is always future technology and therapy. Anyway, I voted life. And, as President Bush said, "It is always wise to err on the side of life." EDIT: To clarify, although I think she should live, the law the Congress passed was unconstitutional. She should live, but the means that we are doing it now is not constitutional. |

I would say life, the reason being simple: I am strongly against taking someone's life, be it for a crime or because you assume they have no life. Who are we to play God? Who are we to say she has no life? Sure, being warehoused by her husband is preventing her from a proper life but no one can claim to understand what's going through her mind. Sometimes people in such a state, when given the oppertunity, will gladly continue even if they cannot have what most people class as a normal life, afterall life is what you make it. If I consider never going out to be my life then's it my life, who are you to say otherwise? I think the same for such a case, a lack of verbal communication does not make her life worthless. Are deaf people now unworthy of living? Are people who are unable to speak suddenly not human? You cannot put worth on anyone's life, to do so is to play God and I personally see no human as being worthy to even dare put a worth on any human's life, no matter what their state. How can anyone judge her as 'unworthy' of living because of her state? If she wanted to die then it would be her choice and she could choose that if she had been allowed but if she chose life then again, it was her choice. Even if she went under therapy and didn't improve, why end her life? If she can communicate that she wants to continue, nobody has the right to overrule it. I wish that if such a thing ever happened to me I would be allowed to live, I know I certainly wouldn't want any court trying to judge whether or not I should live. My life is my own, if I wish it to cease then I will have that, if I wish it to continue I see no reason why any big wig's opinion should overrule it. I certainly wouldn't want these cretins behind the removal of her tube to be the ones to decide. Good intentions are fine but at the end of the day if a human still breathes and can communicate in some form then they have the right to be heard. </rant> |

Amen @ Jay...   and for those people who say the state is perminant and there is false hope, what do we have if we dont have hope? nothing....

My simple answer to this is life. After life, what is there. In truth, we don't actually know. If it was me, I would want to live. Even a cursed existance is better then a possible nonexistance. |
