Is this restriction only for creating a board or for joining one? On the TOS it only says for joining one, but I'm confused because IFSZ banned everyone who was under 13. I'm asking because one of my admins banned someone who was 12 and he PM'd me back on SZ saying he was very upset, may leave the forum forever, and also would like to know why he was banned. |

if someone joins he has to be above 13 or be exactly 13 years of age. ask him to mail a coppa form to you with his parents signature, or perhaps an e mail? i dont know if duff thinks an e-mailed version 'll be good enough, gonna ask heres a website that might make things more clear about coppa http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/coppa.htm |

The 13 or over age limit is for both joining and creating boards. If you wish to join a board and you're under 13, you can send in a COPPA form, like valanar said, by mail or fax. E-Mail would not be accepted i'd imagine, as it would be easy to forge the parental signiture. And usually if someone has joined a board and they are under 13, but not sent a COPPA form, by law their account and details must be deleted, that's what happens at this board |

An e-mail form would be nice because what if the admin is located in somewhere far from U.S and doesn't have a fax machine/number? Asia, perhaps? And err... I'm having problems with COPPA, it's quite confusing. Some say that if you enable it, you must delete under 13, but if you didn't, then there's no problem.. I'm really confused. I have a moderator to look for under 13 members..Just making sure that my members are above or 13 years old.

faxes are expensive especially if you're sending from outside the US :/ >_< As for the enabling of coppa or not and its effects, the law applies no matter what. Having coppa enabled is a way of giving notice to potential new members. If it's not enabled, you should still enforce that rule. |

And they can always lie about their age. The law serves a valid purpose it just is not implemented well. Any board can choose to accept COPPA notices or remove anyone under 13. |

Receiving a fax will always be free for an admin (at least in the US) unless you happen to run your fax machine off a cell phone. For those admins on InvisionFree who would like to allow members under 13 but do not have a fax or do not want to give out a mailing address, we will probably be starting a program soon where InvisionFree can process the COPPA requests for your board. It would probably have a small per request or monthly processing fee. If you do not have a fax machine but still want to be able to receive faxes I can recommend a service like [dohtml]<a href="http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-1545222-10379795" target="_top" >CallWave</a><img src="http://www.tqlkg.com/image-1545222-10379795" width="1" height="1" border="0">[/dohtml]. You get your faxes via email. They give you your own fax number too. They even have a free one month trial (you do not have to provide a credit card until after the trial expires). |

So, as of now, if i don't have COPPA enabled, can i just delete those members under 13? I'm just curious..What if your member's parent is in the board too? Are they still required to pass COPPA?

You should delete anyone under 13 then. It requires written parental permission. |

Well, COPPA is just some flimsy little function where kids don't have the brains to say they're older than 13. WHAT IDIOTS!!! Normally, kids get their way by slipping past obstructives. That's the way it'd usually work, considering if they could read well, they could pick the OTHER option, then get on unnoticed. I'm 14, so I don't have to worry.
