What would you consider a successful board?

 I'm with most of the people here, I think . . . one of my favorite boards (an RP board) has only twenty members - only about six of which are active - but we have a good time. 3,640 posts in about four months - not bad for a relatively small board.

Anyway, I think that there can be no one definition for a successful board save for one that appeals to its members. As long as a board has members that enjoy whatever-it-is the board has to offer, that board is a success.

And a friendly atmosphere is a MUST, in my opinion. I've been to some boards that scared me off by their impersonal or just plain aggressive attitudes. Especially the admins; I once visited an active board that had some friends of mine on it, but the admin was so utterly strict (more so than here, from what I've seen browsing the forums) that I never joined or gave it a second look.

I so agree, i have 'guest friendly option' for most of my boards, and i don't get too strict about spam :yes: and what also gets to me is that some times people attack the 'newbies' for example i had somone on my computer forum ask whta HTML was and a more experienced user attacked her. (i gave him 2 warnings and now he shut up!!!)


What i think is a succesful board, well first of all the activity of members (even if it just is 3 or for guests!! i consider this an active forum) member and post count don't matter as i know a 14 member board i made is more active than one 500 member board i saw!! nice, friendly, welcoming admins that don't just stick an automated message that everyone gets in reply, i like forums with a really personal touch and community feel!!

 i think a lot of people have said it before.......its all to do with quality not quantity.

one guy on our board requested to be banned, because he was so addicted to our site he couldnt do his homework!

 I successful board is with active staff and when administrators don't like showoff about, "I have powers over you and you don't" act like normal members accept by moderating ect, and you will have some active members. :)

I would say you would have some dedicated members, popular topics, and a few trystworthy admins/mods.

Well all know that this can be taken on in many ways but what is the true meaning to a successful board?
There are many things we like to belive so that we think our own board is succssful, but is it really? In some cases no, in others yes, it really depends on what happens on the board and how long it has been running for.

So What Makes a Board Succsseful?

The number of members isn't really relevant in most cases so long as you have a nice ammount of loyal and active members, posts matter in one way but you don't want to have members who have post counts way high when most others have few, this intimmidates new comers unless the site is big.
Most succssful boards relly on a community, a good one where everyone can get along and know each other, sort of like a family, with out that factor, your board will suck.

How Do I Make My Board Succsseful?

I don't know, never had one thats been succssful :r

 In my personal opinion the board is successful if it serves it's purpose. If it doesn't have a purpose why was it created?

I created my board simply to keep in touch with some friends who I was only able to contact via E-Mail. Of course they invited their friends who invited their friends but I still think we're a pretty close albeit dsyfunctional family :)

Don't want my opinion? Here let me give you the opinion that seems popular.

Members? Bah! I saw this board with only ONE member with 100,000 post! I later found out that member was hauled in to have his head examined and I must admit all his post said "I'm a fish", but still, that must've been a great board if you like fishing!

 A successful board is one that you enjoy running and one that your members enjoy coming to. I disagree with the other people here who said that a bunch of members makes your board successful. I am an Admin at a board with 37 members, but we like it that way. I think it's successful. I am a global mod at a board with 1,000+ members, and I also think it's successful. Depends on the purpose of the board.

 My boards never attract anyone. Which is unfortunate. I generally work like nobodys buisness on them to attract members. Being admin on another, very popular, board shows them that I am not an admin that just does nothing other than ban people :r I like to get stuck in conversations and I leave the general banning to other staff. I dont like banning people. Never have yet.

A Successful board is a nice freindly one with a bit of banter on it.
