This viewpoint has been buzzing in my head for quite some time, but it was rediscovered today by something I saw. Let me explain... As you may know, about 6 months ago (somewhere along those lines), Carl's Junior published a commercial that cause extreme controversy; it showed a man, looking at about 5 women lined up, deciding which one to "pick." "A man needs a little variety," it stated--a statement that made thousands angry, because the commercial was objectifying women. This commercial made me angry as well, as believed it very sexist and unfair. However, I became even angrier today as a saw another commercial. Three women are eating at a resteraunt, and three male waiters come to serve them; the women look them over, and once again, the message appears: "variety is important." This is the exact same thing as the Carl's Jr. commercial. My question is, why didn't anybody care about this commercial? No publicity was made by it; no one considered it sexist. Theanswer hit me. It was because the opposite was happening. Women were objectifying men, not the other way around. Don't get me wrong, I hate sexism against women, but it makes me angry when women are allowed to say whatever they want about men without eing considered "sexist," but if men so much as say one little thing about women, god forbid, major sexism alert. Why?! Why is it that it is sexist to ever even hint that women may have flaws, but men get to be bashed with insults all the time? For exampple, in TV shows, the stupid character always has to be a man; if it is a women, that is sexism. WHY isn't it sexism to say men are stupid? :'( |

You think sexism is bad now? Try looking a few years back before the Woman's Sufferage... Personally, I hardly even notice sexism anymore. I treat girls like I would treat boys, so I don't really care. |

Simple answer to why. Sex sells. Really I am not sure if your a man or woman :$ but would you rather see a comerical of the oppisite sex(or sameif your homosexul) half naked of a bunch of flowers? Every comercial pretty much has sex. If if it is not directly stated there are inuendos. I can't think of one comercial without sex. You need to loosen up a bit. Not only is sex everywhere sex appeal goes both ways. In a lot of adds there are half naked women. There are also a lot of adds with half naked men(ewww get them away). You just have to deal with it. If they stopped putting sex in comercials all sales of every product would quicly fall. Sex sells and you gotta get used to it. ((I really hope I can say sex)) |

It's basically how society has developed. Women have been shown to be the "gentle, harmless" gender, while men would be the stereotypical "macho, knothing can stop me" look. It is really bad that now sexism is biased for women. I though, do not try to go out of my way to be - what society calls - normal. If I want to make a comment that some may find offensive, so be it. Let them get offended. If you don't like what I'm saying, just stop listening. |

Yes, you can say sex.Unless you say it in a manner of porn. Okay, that didn't make sense. You see, a Man was more described as a strong person while women were quiant, harmless, folk. Even the bible is pointing to men, God, Moses, Isiah, Jesus...Popes... So, even if you try to stop it, it'll be almost impossible due to the fact that since the time of BC, Men are more graded than women. |

Well, sexism has a lot to do with our community; for one, it makes babies. Two, it feels good. Three... well, I wouldn't call it healthy, but it's free. Now why are women in the minority? Stereotyping... women are known as weak human beings, while men with their testosterone are to be strong, or as people say. We all know that isn't true, but society has based upon it so that we believe that it is true. |

This reminds me of a South Park episode where a certain word was said many times over. While in a bar, a group of people were asking why certain words weren't allowed to be said. Then, while in the bar with other parents, Mr. Garrison explains how he can say a different word because of his sexual preference without being bleeped out. Others try saying the word, and sure enough, they're bleeped, even though seconds ago the same word was uttered.  (Yeah, don't go posting the words please. Thanks.)It's a double standard. That's all there is to it. Same with racial slurs. |
