It is in all of my sites official rules. IF you have to ask you won't become a mod. If they PM a request it's considered PM advertising and they lose thier PM rights. If it's a forum request it's spam and usually gets them warning points. But with all the proper rules in place I very rarely get asked. With all of that said can I be a mod? XD

Well, once happend to me that this kid wanted to be admin.
I said no.
He said I should make him admin because I was doing a terrible job.
Me:I nsult me and hope I'll make you admin? How stupid are you?
His brother (who was admin): He would make a fine admin.
The next day, everything was deleted.
Trough the account of the kids brother.
*Qj used his backup.
Banned there IP.
Then I got a IM from the kid.
He still wanted to be admin.
How stupid can you be?
First you delete it all, then you ask for a admin position :S

If you dont encounter that problem, then your either:

1. Running a board of all staff ( :ermm: ....)
2. Running a board of 100% friends
3. Running a board that is not used as a community
4. A horrible scary administrator

:r

Of course ive had that problem:

" I wasn't made a mod?!?! Wtf?!?! You admins suck!!! "
He was partially joking, and partially arrogant, since we knew him as a mod on a bigger vB forum.

"(on msn) So are you looking for a new mod yet?"
She got the job the second time, but only cause she is one of the best members.

"even though im not a mod :@ :'( thats flaming man u should avoid it "
Backseat moderating + showing that hes mad he didnt get it.

"Yo ----, have you given me Mod status yet?"
....just cause you know the Root, dosent mean your gonna get premoted ;)

Sad thing is, the guy who posted that last one, didnt post after he didnt get the job.

Yeah...I hate it when people join, they don't post...they just PM you and ask for a Mod, GMod or Co-Admin position. I can understand if it is a friend you have known for awhile and you know that he is good for these positions but I hate it when someone you don't know just pops up and asks...it gets kind of annoying.

I really hate it when they Pop up on Aim, MSN, ICQ, or YIM and ask...

After being asked for about 3 weeks, I finally thought up a plan that made us both happy. I set up a new user group with the exact same permissions as normal members, and named it the exact same thing as my mod group. Then I put that member in that new group. Bingo, no more pm's, no more complaints. then after a week I told the member he lost his job because he did nothing.

That was a smart plan.

You guys are crazy, you have to take advantage of these situations! This one girl was begging me to be a mod every day so I told her if she sent a new PM to every single newbie that joined every day I'll make her a mod. It last for about 2 weeks and then she didn't want to be a mod anymore.

It's a Win/Win situation. :D

heh, that reminds me of something I did to someone who constantly begged me.

Nice. I hate people who constantly ask for moderating positions, if I feel someone deserves to be a mod I'll tell them.

I must try out that trick sometime... :r

Strange that they didn't notice they had no mod cp button though... Or staff room access.

I hate when people ask.

"can I be a Admin"

"No."

"why"

"Cause I do not need help, and you just joined"

"so.."

"..."

"Can I be a admin?"

"NO!"

"Why?"

I ended up igorning them.

Today...I got 5 pms from the same guy asking to be a mod on this one site I am a Co-Admin on...I mean...He just kept asking and asking...everytime I gave him the same answer...

"No...your request has been denied on several occasions...you just joined the site and do not have enough posts or are well-known enough to be a mod..."

I mean...it gets rather annoying...

Make him do work for the position.

-One year of welcoming new members.
-20 non-spam posts a day
-5 news related topics.
-2 new members that remain active must be brought to the forum ever month.

Tell him that's the criteria you had to uphold to get that position so he should do the same. He'll probably try for a week and then leave. If he does accomplish that then he deserves being a mod.

Lots of good idea for dealling with people who want to be mods here ...
I have never encountered that problem.
And alamir;
If someone does that, he/she will quickly become a very good member, someone who you would want to be a mod because he/she has contributed so much. Good idea.
