I dont hate them. But then again i do say that most of the new Support Volunteers need to learn more about IF and other IF related things. It sucks answering something right and someone else posting something else that makes no sense. and its all wrong. |

Again, if you read this entire topic, which most of you haven't, or the entire pinned support volunteer topic, which most of you haven't (or you just have horrid reading comprehension skills), it's been explained to death. But, since most of you still won't go back and read the rest of the posts, I'll go ahead and paste this:
Yes, there have been problems with newer members mistaking Support Volunteers as some sort of extension of the staff ever since somebody came up with the idea, just as we've had problems with other misleading things in sigs, custom member titles, and avatars, like people using our team icons, calling themselves "mod helpers" and far too many other variations for me to remember. We've disallowed most such things, but Support Volunteer is one of the more benign ones, and we do actually try to balance being too strict with not strict enough. But, then there's what Yodaminch said, which is strangely true, and not merely his opinion. The vast majority of those who choose to use the Support Volunteer title are the least capable of giving proper support and are the most likely to end up restricted. And those of us that are here several hours each day and have been for years know that's indisputable fact. |

Wise people are accepting tittles not creating them (Unless they are playing some nice RPG). And those who are not wise can't give good support. IFS is not the only place where the people who got computer from his dad or mom are connected to the Internet and thinks that Internet belongs to them. I put "IF Support Volunteers" on the same shelf like usenet trolls, IRC kiddies - the people, IMHO, who should have Internet access forbidden by law. It is disgusting, especially for the people who remembers how the Internet were looking like in the time when most of these guys were sucking milk out their mom's breast. Then being a moderator were enjoyable, there were mature people around, not idiots who either treat you as a slave or are buttkissing to be moderators too. And, don't be naive, people who are enjoying stupid titles and blubbering nonsense wants moderator power, they don't give a sh** about the people because if they would care, they would do their best to provide a good and accurate answer which is actually helpful, not post whatever what just to be visible as a person who today answered 100 help requests, such people don't deserve any credits in my opinion. And there is a major difference between a staff member being marked and a kiddie who marks himself - today when various stupid people are playing with social engineering, are impersonating staff members and doing nasty things there are no other way to show people who is a real staff member than eye-kicking colours and big labels, "support volunteers" are confusing and abusing it. Mind I am talking about "support volunteers" not support volunteers. Stupidity deserves no respect. Regards. |

I think we should have "IF Summary Volunteers" .....people who voluntarily give summaries of threads longer than 2 pages...and keep giving summaries of the entire post with every 2 pages. If anyone did this I'd pay more attention to THEIR posts more than others. Like that "When is s12 coming out thread?" .......that title is enough reason for me never to click on it...but now its at almost 14 pages...and I feel like I missed something....but there were no " IF Summary Volunteers" guide me. I don't think people can screw up summarizing......ur just repeating what u remember someone else said..... u might miss some main points.but some points are better than none. |

The secret is setting your "Number of posts to show for each topic page" to something really high, so all these crappy topics are only one or two pages.

can you edit your last message so that it REMAINS a secret please? ....when it's 14 pages long though...all I get is MORE posts i don't want to read on my screen. I need IF Summary Volunteers. I hope people take initiative and this doesn't turn into one of those crazy ideas that I need to start by doing my own summarizing until people catch on... b/c then I'll start a revolution... no ducks..just Dr. Phils. |

Unfortunately that IF Summary Volunteers needs to have uber power to lock threads because some people (aka. post count goals hunters) are not compatible with such things. ;] Regards. |

Really this seems to keep going in circles. Basically, there are a few of you who aren't getting what we are saying. So let me break it down into facts. Fact: The people in Support Restricted or any other grey name, frequently gave incorrect support and of that amount 75% referred to themselves as support volunteers. Fact: Of those in grey, about 80 % have made it clear to the staff in one way or another that they wanted to be on the support team/admin. Fact: Hundreds of users have given support voluntarily. However as this is primarily a support forum, there isn't much else to do. Fact: Staff are volunteers. The blue guys volunteer their time to answer dozens of support tickets and or topics. Fact: The only real volunteers here are the staff. The rest of you don't have to be here and can choose not to help at all. Then again so can we, but then we're asked to resign ![]() As I said before, calling yourselves volunteers is ridiculous. You are helpers. And helpers only. Call yourselves Support Helpers as that is what you are. |
