Woah, woah, cool it, everyone. Das, I had no idea you were so hurt by this--you have my sympathy. However, just bacause you didn't lose anyone in Gettysburg doesn't mean it wasn't important, Think of all those people that had their brothers, sons and fathers sent off in the war, never to return again...surely you must understand what they felt? Surely you must realize why this battlefield...this graveyard is so precious to us all?You of all people Das, should feel their pain.

I do, but I am sure the soldiers would want you to move on, and I don't think they are building things right on their graves. |

But if you choose to act, you can make a difference. At the bare minimum you can slow down the affects. A single person affects everyone he meets. That can easily turn into a countless amount within a small amount of time. Saying something is bound to happen does no one any good. But deciding that it will happen, but layout out a plan to see what can be done is progress. About the topic, Guys, please keep it cool. Thank you. About the Casino, it's not illegal to build a casino in that location, and the number one thing on the mind of those developers at this point is location. They are choosing a location that's best for them. Meaning the public likes the location. Maybe the casino will even bring in more people to the area and explore the history of the area. I do not think that the casino needs to cancel it's development, but I do think it would have to assist the local area with compensation. The casino is not being built right where it happened, and as long as it gives respect to the area around it, I see no problem with its development. My opinion about Casinos in general, however, is a completely different issue. |

I am aware, but polution spreads fast, so even if they didn't do it there, it would still get to that area. Sorry. Bah, all my posts in a nutshell. |

I agree on a few points. True, it's not illegal, but here's what I see: A sign near, or even ON the casino entrance, reminding people to remember what happened back then, and to pay their respects to the soldiers who died there for the union. That would help me to accept the casino's construction a little more. |

I find the entire prospect of people trying to make money off of the selfless sacrifice of so many people disgusting. It's true that there are many other, more important problems going on in the world right now, but they aren't being caused by the people with this petition. They have other petitions if anyone'd care to look. The people who are willing to do anything, even desecrate sacred sites and disenfranchise entire nations to help themselves to more money are the problem. The owners of corporations with the ridiculous wealth required to build a casino have enough money. And they certainly don't need to use the name of this battlefeild to sell their casino to the public. It truly sickens me. The reason its not illegal is that all legislative bodies of the American government are in the pockets of corporate lobbyists. It is without question completely unnaceptable to allow corporations to continue this (I'm speaking of course of the WalMart built in the Teotihuacan ruins in Mexico). Where does it end? A petition may not be much, but nobody makes a greater mistake than the person who decides to do nothing because he or she could only do a little. |
