The security of IE? What assurance does that give us? IE has NO SECURITY! HAHAHAHA

In fact, MICROSOFT ACTUALLY HACKS INTO YOUR COMPUTER LIKE THEY DID MINE! Whatever information you have using IE, saved passwords, credit card information, SSI, Microsoft takes and sells!!! It's true!!!! IE7 will go to HELL after Firefox 2 comes out B) .

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2...5KeynotePR.mspx

By now, Microsoft should have already acuired Firefox 1.0.4's source code and studied it. IE7 might be even better than Firefox when it comes out. Who knows? It could happen. :/

Microsoft hacks into people's computers? Never heard of such a thing. If they did hack into your computer, why don't you sue them?

A blast from the past.

if MS studys Ff and uses it codes or versions of it for IE7 we know who the better one is Ff. MS is knowed to mess things up. Gates said people who use Open Scorce thigns are commies. with that I can say MS will never study Ff. besides bigs corps would rather spend money on something on there own then base something off an open scorce thing because normlay you would need to give the orngial programer creidit.
I dont think MS would hack into peoples computers. The Korean MS site was hacked recanly and caused some of thoughts problems but not be MS its self.

So, If Avant decided to use either the KHTML engine or the Gekko engine, would their number of users increase or decrease?

I think this issue should give some thought on how changing the web engine can affect Avant Browser. While the Gecko engine does has it's advantages over IE's, I definitely have some issues with the Gecko pertaining efficient use of computer hardware. One of the reasons why I don't like Mozilla and Firefox is the non-OS compliant interface. It makes the program slower or sluggish especially on older computers. While the markup language that Mozilla and Firefox are made of do have it's advantages in a developmental standpoint such as having a portable program that can be ported to other operating systems easier than using native coding, it makes the program slow VS the OS-compliant coding. Top of that, virtual memory can make Firefox and Mozilla slow, but the main issue is the CPU usage, which I noticed the Gecko uses a lot. This also effects the performance of Mozilla and Firefox. They seem to drag themselves when browsing. On a Pentium IIIE 667, it can take up to 98% CPU power when viewing Flash. You can have a Flash blocker to combat this, but Flash is part of the web. I tried Opera and there is no comparison in which runs smoother and faster at the same time it seems lighter. Of course Avant Browser don't have to use the same type of coding like Firefox and Mozilla, but the Gecko does behave much differently than IE. This should be a consideration when thinking about a change. Frankly, I am not a Microsoft hater. I never been hacked using Internet Explorer. I download all my updates and toggle options in Internet Explorer for better security. I am not a W3C guy either. I just like to browse with a good browser that is all. On a developmental standpoint for Anderson Che (The developer and creator of Avant), sticking with IE is easiest way for him. Afterall he is the only guy making the program. Where the Mozilla community number in the many and want to extend their product across to different operating systems as easily as possible. That is one of the reasons why they chose the language that they chose. Making Avant Browser to run on Gecko will more than likely increase CPU usage, and RAM usage. Opera is a magnificent piece of work as far as delivering a light high performance browsing engine. It's compliance with web standards is not perfect, but it's improving. Anderson working with the Gecko will further complicate his work as Gecko is constantly being updated. Anderson would just have to work on stability and features if he works on Avant Browser as a Internet Explorer extension or enhancer.

In short: IE based = Fast FF=Slow

Not true. FF is just as fast as IE.
IE is a tad faster because it has built in compents to window OS. IE based browsers don't always have the same advantage.

opera Owns all

It sure does, I've used Internet Explorer for about 4 months and then I moved to FireFox which I've used for about 7, now I'm with Opera and let me tell you this browser is awesome, it totally blows away Internet Explorer, against FireFox it's a tad faster [If Not the Same Speed] but has way more features then FireFox has. The thing is that the FireFox program file size is about 10 MB but Opera is only 3 MB and is a better browser.

How can you even say that, I'm looking at the Add/Remove programs screen and it says Opera is 3.7 MB, last time I checked FireFox was a bigger file size then that.

..My two bits? Firefox is my personal favorite browser. And aye, I've tried Avant, Opera, blah blah etc..

And of course, I've tried IE-what with it being my browser for years. :P Advant..eh, it's got too much IE-basis for my tastes, and personally, doesn't quite suit meh far as browsing the internet goes.

Far as this "Internet Explorer 7" goes..if they use all these things from Firefox, hey, guess what? That proves how pathetic the makers of IE are getting. XP

IE Developer

...sheet. We runnin' outta ideas for this browser update, fo' real.

IE Developer 2

OOH! How about we rip some features off some other browsers, incorperate it into Internet Explorer version 7..uhhhh...! Make other browsers ILLEGAL, there we go! YEAH!

IE Developer

GENIUS! We'll wipe the floor with the competition once there IS none! But, we'll have to act fast. Quick, get in the Bill Gates Mobile-we'll torch everything to do with Firefox and Opera in a single night.

IE Developer 2

WHY STOP THERE!? ALL UR BROWSERS R BELONG 2 ME!!!1

---------

Firefox has a simplicity to it that I like-combine that with many useful features, decent loading speed and the popular tabbed windows feature, the ability to customize it so much, the skins which, to meh, look a tad better on FF than the ones on Avant do [that's purely opinion-based tho'.], and some other things..well, Firefox has my vote as browser right now.
