Can't afford an Ipod and all the first version of Ipods are getting dumped for Ipod Shuffle (only holds like 500 songs compared to 2500+ of a 20GB) etc. so I can see the Ipod poulairity slowly falling unless theres something huge waiting in the wings.

So MP3 all the way...

On AACs, the high quality point starts at 128kbps, while on MP3s: 160kbbs.
This means you save over 32 Kilobytes per SECOND. That's a whole savings of 1,896kb (1 Mb, 872Kb) p/min that you get with AAC compared to MP3.


If we convert everything to bytes:
"On AACs, the high quality point starts at 16KBps, while on MP3s: 20KBbs."

You get a saving of 4 KBps. This converts to 32 Kbps. So yes, the unit they used was wrong. If I am correct, the next statement is also wrong. If there are 60 seconds in 1 minute (and there is), then we have that it is 32 Kbps is multiplied by 60, to get 1920 Kbpm. This means that for each minute you save 240 KB. In five minutes you would save: 1.17 MB.

So it's not this great brilliant compression algorthm that it says it is, considering I can half the size of my MP3's with the WMA format, and still hear the same quality music.

Are you sure? Asuming it was 160 KBps, in a minute we have 9600 KBpm. In five minutes that would be 48000 KB. If we convert this into MB we get 46.9 MB. Not to make it sound any worse or anything ;)

I believe my calculations are correct, although I could be wrong :)
