I figure it is ok to post this here, because it is about programing anyway ... I right now know Darkbasic and Javascript. I really love making games and javascript isn't a game making language so I pretty much only know Darkbasic when it comes to game coding. Dark basic is a great language to start off with and for a lot of 2D and basic 3D games, but I want to get into something more. So where is my question.... Does anyone were know of a good game progaming language? And if so do you know its coding? |

C++ is one, it's used to make computer games, nintendo games, sega, playstation games, it's used to make programs like Microsoft Word, powerpoint, acess. etc etc etc. |

I don't know much of it, of the things i've made (with the help of my oldest brother): A short thing that counts to 50 and says "hello world" A tic Tak Toe board (not done). as for the difficultly ask Stephen (ticlo). Everyone has a diffrent opinioin. i'd rather be learning PHP/Javascript then C++. |

Well it really doesnt matter how hard it is because it is very powerful. All really advanced programs and games use it. It is good for everything except web programming. Visual basic is no where as good as C++. I can do everything much faster in C++. If you are looking to build 3d games and such, you will have to use C++ with a graphics library. OpenGL is one and directX is another. Of course, it will take you quite a while to get to the point of making windows programs. Most of the learning will be done in console apps. However, once you have master classes and pointers, you can move to the visual programs and once there, you can step up to games. If you're choosing between visual basic, and c++, choose c++. Visual basic is used in the world, but if you know visual basic and not c++ it wont help you all that much. Knowing both is fine but C++ is a must have. If any visual basic lovers are out there, im not trying to offend. I started learning visual basic when I was 8 i think. However, once I recently started building in Borland c++ builder 6, i can already see that although visual basic is easy to learn, its not nearly as powerful. Edit: Oh ya, again, if you're looking for web programming, c++ is not the way to go. C++ is used for programs like games you BUY or download. Also, c++ is what windows and office are written in. |

C++ is powerful, but takes awhile to learn. You'd need to buy books about it and have lots and lots of free time to test out code and practise. If your local High School supports it, try taking a class for programming. It'd be a headstart if you're really into it. |

:o how dare you!  i don't really know much about game programming, but chances are at 13 you should be learning the fundamentals of programming in a language, so that you can go onto do game programming at a later date. A lot of games require lots of work and a huge amount of knowledge about the program. So starting with the basics of C or C++ and building up your knowledge so that when you hit university or something, you'll be able to do the things you are aiming for now. Thats not to say that you won't be able to make games now, but it's probably best to try and learn from the ground up, rather than throw yourself in the deep end

^ you are entirely right. When starting to learn programming, dont expect lots. It will take years for you to master the fundamentals. If you get discouraged (like I did), just remember that you're getting ahead of the game. Since I knew quite a bit of c++ i was able to get someone at the local college to waive 2 computer classes for me. Saves money that way. Good luck with learning.

I wouldn't suggest learning DarkBasic as a first language :/ Getting some other programming experience from better languages would be a better idea. |
