IE faster than FF?

extensions for firefox do sometimes slow down the browser, but it's worth to see things like the weather when you want (not going to a site), moving the tabs where you want, resize the tabs to the size you want, rename tabs, get the stock news, go to sites that people rate excellent, go to sites about many many many many diffrent things like: mythology, technology, nanotech, science, life, math, (many much more). I like firefox, i'm in IE right now, (becuse of school).

FF is better than IE. I have noticed that IE comes into memory faster than FF, but if you view more than one site at a time, FF takes up less memory. It has far better security because it doesn't support ActiveX applications (these things have full access to your computer), and it doesn't use BHO's. Ok, extensions are sort of like BHO's but there is no way for them to install without permission, FF has had a lot less bugs than IE in its lifetime. So why bother to use IE when there's FF?

I use IE in school, but otherwise I use Firefox.

I'll add my own personal opinion into this one. IE6 on it's own, running under anything less than Windows XP SP2 is pretty stupid. It's out of date, yes, and it doesn't block spyware. That said, run IE6 on SP2 and it's an okay browser, more secure that it used to be, and the popup blocker is nice. Still, it's probably not as good as FireFox, even though FireFox feels more bulky than IE. If I want to open hotmail, IE is what I use, it feels quicker and nicer than FireFox. Don't get me wrong, I use FireFox on my Linux setup and it's great, but if i'm checking my hotmail there, i'll go for something quicker like Konqueror.

But you can have the best of both worlds. I browse using Maxthon, IE interface for nice-ness, and FireFox features like one-click disable scripts, disable ActiveX etc, and tabbed browsing, AND skinnable interface (i'm on Escape the Net). AND it allows plugins inside it, so i've got the Disable Page Annoyances one (masked links, money-making redirects, popup windows etc), View Target for links, Flash Save, View Source, and the amazingly useful Web Page Spy, which allows you to query the DOM, see all the scripts running on the page, and much more.

IE w/ Maxthon is the best browser out there. -coughs- if you've got 256MB RAM or more... :)

FireFox is just starting out. And BugZilla gets new reports every day.

Comparing FF to IE is like comparing IF to IPB. The former starts off with less options and might not seem better at first but there are so many things you can do to customize it, it ends up becoming better than the latter.

I now use IE and FF but IE seems alot faster than FF. FF seems to take forever to actually load and IE does it in no time at all. I only use FF when i am bored.

Also you wont be saying IE is good when you see all the ad-ware, spy-ware, and viruses you get.

Yeah... I agree, stupid IE, it is a piece of human skin to a mosquito as firefox is a bird to a window when talking about those kinds of things...

So you feel that the scrolling is more "jagged" in FF than IE?

That can be changed quickly.

Tools > advanced > browsing > Smooth scrolling? (check the box)

Bam, you've got smooth scrolling. :)

Thats the biggest piece of crap ive heard in this thread oO

Aside from the microsoft anti-spyware deleting IE

Firefox is nothing like IE, they both render pages different. What the major problem with the bolded part, is IF came from IPB, to be exact, we are still on IPB 1.3 Final. Firefox didnt come from IE at all, its not even remotely based from IE.

If you wanted to compare FF to IE like IF to IPB, it would be more like IF 2.0 to IPB 3.X, since IF 2.0 will not be based from IPB.

Btw, if you still believe the article posted on that site about microsoft deleting IE, please read this:

I think I did that a while back because the jerky scrolling was bugging me, and after turning the smooth scrolling on, it was too slow and I had to spin my mousewheel 50 times or something stupid just to scroll through topics here.
I guess you have to restart the browser for it to take effect, because I just switched it a few times and I see no change.
I'd rather have it jerky than sit here spinning my mousewheel all day and wearing it out.

Oh, by the way, I currently have 10 tabs open in Firefox and 17 in Avant (IE), and that's fairly normal for me.
I have noticed that at some high number of tabs in Firefox, like maybe 40 or 50 or something, they start going off the screen and one is partially hidden behind the "close tab" button.
I've had probably 100 tabs open in Avant before with no problem other than decreased page area, since it drops them down onto a new bar every so many tabs.
Though, with that many tabs open, you have to watch what sort of sites you visit, or a couple stupid flash intros or ads starting up at once can hang you out to dry.

I try to never have more than 30 open though, because it gets too hard to tell them apart, but sometimes I'm lazy.

Oh, and middle-click to open links in a new tab is definitely a nice feature, and one of the reasons I like Avant.

One of the reasons I prefer Avant over Firefox for a lot of things is that if it crashes or the power goes out or I accidentally close it or whatever, when I restart it, it says it wasn't shut down properly and would I like to re-open all the tabs that were open, which it will do if I say yes.
Whereas I have to dig through the history of Firefox to get back to what I was doing after anything happens.
That is, if the history wasn't deleted :arr:, since one of Firefox's nice little bugs is deleting your history and bookmarks and other rather critical stuff whenever it gets the urge, and there's no way to get it back, unlike in IE, not that it ever happens in IE, at least never to me in 10 years of excessive use.

And yes, I have the bookmark backup extension, which didn't help me the first time everything went bye-bye, since I didn't know about it, so I didn't have it then (by the way, wouldn't you think with such a common major bug like that, they'd consider making the backup part of the damned browser by default if they're not going to actually fix the problem any time soon? ), but the extension only backs things up whenever you do a proper shutdown, so I guess you're out of luck if it crashes, and Firefox has probably crashed on me 20 or so times so far, so it's running about equal with IE on that, as far as I can tell.

Hmm.. what else?
Oh, security?
Yeah, Firefox seems better, though you can configure IE to be pretty much secure, but it's a shame it's not like that by default.
And I have ways of dealing with anything that still manages to get by.

Gmail notifier?
Do we really care?
I have Gmail, and haven't bothered with the notifier, nor do I use the YIM email notifier to tell me when I have Yahoo mail.
I just check my email like a normal person, mostly because I have (justified) trust issues with relying on some software or service for something like that.

Forcastfox?
Again, who really needs that?
I have a weather thing as part of Sysmetrix, so I don't need a browser open or anything to check it, it's just always on my desktop, but I still hardly ever check it because honestly, I don't care.

Phrank, give Maxthon a whirl instead of Avant. Personally I used to love Avant Browser and would recommend it to everyone, but after using Maxthon for a while, I prefer it because of small stuff. Plus I posted in the Feature Requests board on Avant and no-one ever got back to me. Ever.

lol
