Made my forum about a basketball team that I truely love and had a lot of knowledge about. Those are big keys...you have to really like to talk about the subject of your forum, and you should be knowledgeable. I also run it the way a very successful NBA board that I visit runs theirs...which is another key in helping to build a forum. Go with what works. Also, it helps if the subjects of your board have constant news. My forum is about the Orlando Magic, and theres news everyday - whether its games, players being traded, stats to talk about, etc. |

Being well known on other forums with a good reputation helps to encourage people to join your own forum also, then if you have a good thing going word of mouth will be your best friend trust me. And being an admin is hard work it takes lots of dedication and to get your forum off the ground it's up to you to do the leg work for the first few months or more till you have enough members and activity to be self sustaining where you can then relax a bit but not too much hehe. Some great tips & ideas here folks! |

Tell me about it. Being a member is so easy, you come on and don't have to post if you don't want to or just post in the spammy threads. Me - I have to continually keep posting and reply to all the members posts. Members enjoy the fact that the admin read their post and commented on it, so I make a point of reading every post on my board and making any comments about whether I agree with their point of view and praising their ideas etc. I also interact with my members whenever I can to make them feel welcome. Mind you, I'm not complaining one bit as I love it and I'm hoping to get a domain name soon.

submit your site to search engines ( check my sig for the submission-guy ) also make it look flashy with IF codes , if you make a website have a cool template, you can buy professional 1's at ( in sig ) templatescrown URL in my sig. But yaa, register for forums, and in your sig on that forum, put your URLS like i did here. Believed it or not, it helps. also become 'freinds' with website growing too, like you put their banner or text ad on your site, they put yours on their site. |

I got my forum to become active quickly because I'm well know at other various forums, all I have to do is advertise at 4-5 different forums and I'll have 50+ members in 2 days. Also I make sure my forum is perfect [Ex. Skin, Graphics, Forum Descriptions] before I open it to the public. |

I am the Administrator at a forum, and as a resource forum, we made it as unique as possible. In the beginning of its opening, the two makers of it, AlphaRob and Cadence were well known at the IFSZ, and were able to get great skinners and graphic makers. We offer as many unique resources as possible, and try to fill our galleries with high quality skins and graphics. |

Resource forums get more members than posts, because a lot of people come, then get thier skin, or whatever and leave. |

Yes, you are correct. We still have about 150 posts a day though. |

you have to remember that it's the beginning of summer. most people aren't on their computers typing away at the boards. topsites, search engines, word of mouth, siggys they are telling you the way. I have 16 posting members. on a brand new board, but I've had other boards where i had 65 members and 10. so watch what you ask for. You want members of quality. Good luck to you. |
