If I were a mod I'd just delete every post that doesn't abide by the rules. I'd have to delete/lock hundreds upon hundreds of topics though.

Eh, exactly. Probably over %50 of current topics have poor grammar and describe the problem badly, and with the amount of topics in the support section every day, the Staff would have to do 3 times more than they do now, and waste their time deleting topics when they could be doing more important things.

Think the only realistic solution is just to live with it. If it's really too bad to read, then ask the poster to try and explain a little better.

Eh, it's just a little annoying in my opinion. And there's no punishment for it so they never have to improve their selves.

Yeah, i agree, and in the long-term, there should be some plans to find a way to deal with it, but right now, punishing everyone who does it would waste a lot of time of the InvisionFree Staff.

Ever try using the warning system?

So you think the Staff should warn everyone who posts a bad support topic? How would that waste their time any less than them deleting topics?

Anyway, i don't want this to turn in to an argument, so..

No, I mean if someone does it all of the time after they've repeatedly been asked to stop. This would help with topic bumpers too.

Meh, bad topics (while annoying) hardly seem worth bothering with. Why would I want to waste five minutes (which is the approx time I take in order to explain the problem fully if a PM/e-mail is sent, alongside spelling, links, etc) of my time writing up a warning for someone who won't be coming back. Doesn't take a minute to basically say 'Please explain your problem in a coherent manner as I am unable to understand your situation.' or whatever.

Bad support on the other hand, is a different matter altogether. Sure I hate topics that don't explain the problem fully (and with one click we can rid of topics that don't explain it - which usually gets the person to repost it and state the full problem) but it's not as bad as people giving incorrect answers which can result in misdirecting the user and causing even more problems for them. :/

Trashing all badly written topics isn't worth the bother, IMO, there's too many on a daily basis to deal with. If we were smaller, or had a couple of hundred more staff, maybe then it would work but nah, I think we'd just be setting ourselves up for a fall. Besides, there are far worse things that we punish people for - I think suspending or giving formal warnings for this kind of thing seems a bit too...I dunno, dictatorial. :/ Most people ask one question then leave - why bother warning them? Just be polite and ask them to state the problem or even better, ignore them and they'll eventually post the actual problem. Or go away. :ermm: But then, I don't deal with support on a daily basis and I can come and go as I please without obligation to it but when I do come across topics that don't explain the problem well, I simply ask the person to be more coherent. Being polite seems to work wonders compared to shouting and whipping (as much fun as it is). Of course, I'd say differently for people who should know better...

I'm sure you all noticed the Support Rules revamp (at the top of gensupport forum). I did that specifically to try to cut down on the number of clueless people posting in there.

I don't think it worked very well :( that's what happens when you cater to this demographic.

I still say make the registration rules size 84. Its impossible for someone to tell us they didn't see the rules when they registered then. :)

I still think having something like that "Posting and You" video play when you register is the way to go.

eeek, punishing people for spelling badly lol. That sounds harsh, especially when most of the people involved are normally in their early teens. Not all 13/14 year olds have perfect grammar.
Then there's the foreigners, to whom english isn't a primary language and sometimes is even hard for them to learn/speak. I remember a while ago a brazilian was asking questions using an online translator. :X

Asking them to explain themselves better is probably the only plausible solution unless, of course, you raise the age limit for board owning  but I don't think that's a solution either.
When search comes back, it may clear out alot of useless topics. Might be an idea to enable search only in the help sections, including Manual, General Support, Coding, Domains, Skinning, etc etc.

Poor guy. That was probably really hard for him, having to translate the answers to Brazillian.

Yeah, punishing for grammar or spelling mistakes would mean I'd have be banned...18 times over, just to make up for all the mistakes I've made.

Just thought you guys might like to know that some newbies (myself) actually have read all the FAQ's and rules and documentation before asking for help. There is hope for us!

I dunno, I have always thought it smart to be as informed as possible before asking someone else a question they have been asked 1,000 times before. A simple search tends to find your answer before you have to ask it. Why more people don't read the rules and do a search before posting is beyond me. I've had 3-4 questions on these boards in the past couple weeks; if I hadn't searched and read the documentation though, I would have had 100 more. It's very easy to answer your own questions if you just try.

After only a week or two here I already feel sorry for you guys. Not only the vague topics and descriptions, but so many people just aren't gracious at all for the free help; they're actually rude when the don't get the answer they want!

So, thanks.

I was the same when I first came here. :) I learned what I could through just doing stuff in the ACP and when I decided I wanted to know the ins and outs I came here, read the documentations and made sure I understood the rules to the best of my ability. ^_^ I always feel stupid asking silly questions that have been answered in manuals and such which is why I topped myself up on as much info as I could [understand] before asking for any help.

S'always best to read, but I guess some people are just plain, pain-in-the-backside lazy. :/ Perhaps even lazier than Merc.

Hey, I'm 13 and I'm doing fine. I'm not perfect but the difference in me and them is the fact that I take time. It's not because they're ignorant they're just lazy.
